ignore the children who can't deal with the fact that everyone likes different games and that is why there are so many different types of game...

I'm not a child, I just hate what games like Call of Duty are doing to one of my favourtie genres of video game.
Trying to argue that Call of Duty is aiding diversity in the market is absolutely laughable.

call of duty is one of the most successful series of games ever, so clearly a lot of people like them, as each successive game seems to break the records held by the previous one. If you don't like them, fine - but there is no need to slate them every time someone asks a simple question.

so why did you get involved in the article in the first place then if you don't like the game muppet

Call of duty was also the pioneer for next gen multi player games.

I'm sorry I thought this was an open forum, my mistake.
Zaphod, something being succesful doesnt represent its quality. You only have to look at the modern pop charts and the crap that populates the top ten on a regular basis as evidence.
Unfortunately people have a tendancy to develop loyalties towards certain brands, and if marketed correctly they will be successful. Particularly younger children (there are an awful lot of 9 year olds playing this on Xbox Live)
Most of the people I know who buy call of duty year in year out have decided its a must buy before details of the game are even released. They just hear another COD is coming out in November and start counting down the days. Being honest with yourselves, how many of you have decided you're buying the recently announced Black Ops 2 despite that fact that little details have been announced?
I do actually agree with Serial though, Call of duty 4 did actually lay alot of groundwork that multiplayer shooters across the board now borrow from. The only problem is, it stagnated from there and became a copy and paste job destroying any competition that actually tried to move the genre forward.

Chris, i have never said that you should like it. you can feel however you like about it. I just don't know why you feel the need to make some smart comment.
There are plenty of threads i see in this section about games i don't like - so i don't go on them. I don't feel the need to inform the people that do like it that i don't.

this , there is a max payne article, I have never played it and don't intend to, but i wouldn't go on it and make some smart comment about ejecting the disk from the console

The problem here is, there's a massive difference in slating something you've got experience of playing, and having a go at a game that you've never played and have no intention to (in your own words).
I've owned every COD up to MW3 which I rented from love film, finished the campaign in a matter of days and spent about 3 hours with the Multiplayer before I got serious dejavu and decided that enough was enough and bought battlefield 3 instead. So I do base my opinions on having played the games.
As a side note, if you religiously play COD but won't even consider giving the Max Payne series a go then I urge you to reconsider. All 3 games in the series are masterpieces and are far more deserving of your money than call of duty.
I admit my original comment was perhaps a bit too sarcastic and unhelpful. Apologies.

Of course I recognise that it is just my opinion though.
