Albert

Show me a single media outlet that has reported the outcome of the tax tribunal....coz I've never seen such a thing, and I think you are talking bull here sir

Of course HMRC have said Rangers are liable, that's why they have taken them to court.....plenty of people have said Rangers are POTENTIALLY liable.....there's a world of difference between that and being ordered to pay after a tax tribunal has found HMRC's favour....this has not happened yet my friend

Stevie,

HMRC say you committed tax evasion...

It's up to the accused to prove their innocence.

Not just Rangers, everyone whom they accuse

St3vie, what have Rangers done to show that they are not liable for the accepted amount?

HMRC looked at the amount of salaries paid out, looked at the amount of tax paid and have come to the conclusion that Rangers are responsible for the shortfall. They have said "You owe us this." Rangers defence is basically "Naw we don't"

Right so if HMRC say jump, we've all to say how high have we??

Ever heard of things called tax rebates lads....where HMRC have got it WRONG and have taken too much tax off of people and have to pay it back....does that NEVER happen??

HMRC are responsible for the EBT loophole existing in the first place, that is their fault.

More companies than Rangers Football Club expolited this loophole when it was in existence.

HMRC have chased various companies over this, and those that could afford to pay a settlement sum to get HMRC off their back, have done so....Arsenal Football Club is one of them, who had a reported £100m liability through use of EBTs with HMRC and took the easy option of paying a £10m settlement figure to avoid a tax tribunal, as they could easily afford to do so, and HMRC preferred this also as it potentially saved them a fortune in legal fees too.

Rangers were run so badly that they were up to their eyeballs in debt and didnt have a sum of money kicking around to pay off HMRC when the opportunity was there....instead, they have decided to take on HMRC and argue the case that HMRC are chasing the club for money they are not actually owed because the loophole in the tax system that EBTs provided was perfectly legitimate, Rangers were not a fault for using it, and HMRC are basically trying to get every single penny they can back due to a mistake on their part where EBTs could be used and tax free sums of money could be dished out.

The main argument that is going on is whether Rangers used the EBT system correctly......the use of EBTs is not tax fraud in itself, if it was implemented wrongly and was used to pay players and staff as a top up to thier standard salary or whatever, that is where the tax evasion argument comes in.

Everything that was paid into the Murray Group trust by Rangers was declared in the clubs annual accounts every year, this information was NEVER withheld from the tax authorities, it was common knowledge that Rangers and the Murray Group had an EBT scheme in existence....how it was used is the main point here, and thats what this tax tribunal is all about.

What Rangers have done to attempt to prove they are not liable for the "accepted" amount as you call it, they say they used EBTs by the book and in doing so, were able to exploit the loophole in the tax system that HMRC allowed to exist and closed as soon as they tagged onto....we can get into a whole argument about morality and all the rest of it here if you want, but utilising a loophole in the tax system is not tax fraud, tax evasion or illegal....it is using the system and nothing more, thats what Rangers are arguing......Celtic used the SFA's own rules, the SFA's own system against them in order to get Lennon's two touchline bans to run concurrently, and in the end he didnt have to be out of the dugout for so many matches....Rangers are arguing they did the exact same thing with the tax system, used HMRC's own rules against them and in the end avoided paying as much tax as HMRC say they should be paying.

Answer me this lads....if this whole thing was so black and white the way you are making out.....Why has this tax tribunal raged on for absolutely bloody dunkeys??? Why are their tax experts out there saying Rangers have a case???

I'll say it again, I'll be massively surprised if Rangers win this tax case....but until they win it or lose it, all that has happened is HMRC have said one thing, Rangers ar arguing the cae, thats it, they are fighting a tax bill they feel has wrongly landed on their doorstep, nothing more!!

No at all...if used properly, they can be a Godsend for entrepreneurs.

If used for basically evading paying PAYE&NIC so that you can pay players higher wages, then that my friend is illegal

"If used for basically evading paying PAYE&NIC so that you can pay players higher wages, then that my friend is illegal".....and if that is what Rangers have been found to be doing by a tax tribunal that has rumbled on for months, the they are guilty of tax evasion.

I will say it yet again....tax tribunal has not come to a decision yet, until it does, Rangers are not guilty of anything by using EBTs, they are disputing a bill they say they are not liable for, thats it.

If the tribunal finds in HMRC's favour, Rangers are a bunch of cheating so and sos when it comes to using EBTs

Until then, the jury is out

Can argue about this all day lads....tis the truth I'm afraid

Cheerio

Stevie,

You're not getting this.

HMRC say you owe them money.Rangers are appealing that decision.

That's it

"HMRC say you owe them money.Rangers are appealing that decision."

Precisely...HMRC are not always right, thats what Rangers are arguing, and until the tax tribunal makes a decision....to somewhat use the "immortal" line, for every time HMRC say "you owe us this", Rangers can say "naw we dont"....each point is as valid as the other until the tax tribunal comes to a decision
