ATP Matches Of The Day: RG 2012, R16

Quickly starting this thread before men's matches get on their way.

1. Novak Djokovic(SRB)[1] vs. Andreas Seppi(ITA)[22]

This should interesting for a bit at least, seppi is playing well and can challenge Djo .. but only for a while. Djo should win it in 3. But Seppi will break serves maybe a couple of times.

2. Stanislas Wawrinka(SUI)[18] vs. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga(FRA)[5]

Match of the day for me. Stan can play as good as a top-7 player, Tsonga isn't very good on clay but has looked alright till now. This will be a real tester for him. I'll be backing .. won't back anyone, will just enjoy whoever wins.

3. Roger Federer(SUI)[3] vs. David Goffin(BEL)

Fed's playing up and down. Goffin had a tough 5 setter last time. But playing a young opponent isn't easy as they have nothing to lose and can be dangerous. Fed has nothing to gain from this match. Will he wobble as he did in the last 2 matches? I hope not.

4. Juan Martin Del Potro(ARG)[9] vs. Tomas Berdych(CZE)[7]

This has potential to be a great match. Berdy is playing good. Delpo is but I'm not sure if he can get through Berdy's power considering his knee injury. Lets see how this one goes. I won't expect lot of long rallies or many BPs here.

HB, did not know you also had tix to the ladies' final. I used to quite like women's tennis back in the 90s (when I thought the men's game was too much focusing on serve alone) but cannot say I find it very entertaining these days.

Yeah, Dominika Cibulkova played ace, nice 4hand, 5 foot 2, go on Cibulkova win French open.

Yeah, Dominika looked so short standing next to Vika.

I agree with Summer Blues in that I preferred the Graf/Sanchez Vicario/Hingis era more for skill and drama and many things. But basically my brother and my mate and I decided to go to the men's semis and final. Once we decided that well we are in Paris anyway for the Saturday so I said to my brother "Women's final as well" He said "It'd be rude not to" and we bought the tickets. My mate is skipping the women's final. We also got our best ticket for the women's final, presumably because demand is not quite so intense.

I did the same thing at Indian Wells, and actually saw Wozniacki win there in a really decent quality match actually.

On TV and online, I watch men's tennis ten times more than women's. When I actually attend matches, more like two to one for convenience and variety.

If I am not mistaken, Dominika is known to have hard time getting over the finish line in matches like this. So good for her that she managed to do it this time.

HB sharapova is still there and if she sails into finals then you will need ear plugs.

'I am worried he may compromise the rest of the season...at least Wimbledon.'

i agree. Fed can't just be coasting here, my spidey sense tells me he is off the boil for another reason than just conserving energy. I think the great man is either worn from madrid and rome efforts or maybe playing through an injury. Either way he shouldn't flog a dead horse and get himself some rest before wimbledon.

Yes, I woudl really like to know what's hampering him. Obviouly he can still play but it sends all his timing off and requires a couple of sets to loosen up.

It looks like a groin muscle injury to me. If that's the case, only adrenaline can make him play better as the match goes on.

Or it is his back. And a again, warming up and adrenaline will help him play better as the match goes on.

Maybe he believes he can play through and it will heal itself up in teh process. I wish he coudl talk more freely. We will find out in 2 or 3 months as usual...when he wins something again and won't appear as an "excuse".
