ATP Matches Of The Day: RG 2012, QF, Day 10

1. Novak Djokovic(SRB)[1] vs. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga(FRA)[5]

Tsonga's flashy but not-consistent-enough tennis will not get him through Novak who will be more careful after his near miss in the previous round. Novak in 4, or maybe even in straights.

2. Roger Federer(SUI)[3] vs. Juan Martin Del Potro(ARG)[9]

Tough one. Roger knows how to beat Delpo but he has not looked his best the last three rounds, while Delpo looked pretty good against Berdych. I will pick Roger in 4 but an upset would not shock me here.

Tenez, you asked earlier for the odds on Federer - Djokovic. It's 1.6 for Djoko and 2.66 for Federer equating to 62.5% chance for Djokovic, 37.5% Federer.

Thanks. 37% return is not much. But it's such a certitude it makes it interesting.

However I learnt over the years that there is no such things as a certitude in sport.

One of the biggest surprise I have had was Nadal beating Federer in Hamburg in 2008! I was sure Federer was going to win that one the day before it started.

And I was right!...until Federer lost his mind at 5/1 set point first set!.....so since I am a bit more cautious...still Djoko to win on Friday!

Glad Federer made it. I thought he might beat Delpo more easily but a win is a win.

Agree he has little chance against Nole. 37% seems very generous. Would love to be wrong.

By reaching the semi, Federer has given himself a chance to regain the number 2 spot. Nadal has now to win the FO to stay at number 2.

This Djo doesn't look like beating Nadal to me. If it comes down to djo-nadal, its Nadal who will prevail.

Nole is there to be shot at as world number 1 and has answered all questions so far.

Is that 6 match points he's saved in last 12 months of slams?

He raises his game when needed and when he does that even nadal can't live with him.

Hope it's another great match if they meet at his slam.

Tsonga played really really well yesterday. We know Tsonga has the shots to blast anyone off court and yesterday it was that Tsonga.

Nadal will provide a completely different type of rallies and matches. It's going to be again down to who has teh most efficient game when both are exhausted.

We just saw yesterday than in a 5th set Djoko is simply lethal. He has the stamina (in slams it seems) and keep everything in.

One thing I am sure. Nadal did not like what he saw yesterday.

For sure. All experrts are saying that rafa is favorite but to be honest he has not got a single worthy oppposition until now. Almagro has played well against rafa in the past but I too cannot see any upsets here. Murray seems to be the best bet to take out Nadal from three. Nole might be huffing and puffing right now but he is still managing to win even when playing badly. Cometh the final he might be able to turn the tables like he did that in the 5th set.

We saw Djoko struggle v Tipsy, Dolgo , Tomic, Baggy, last year and that never prevented him to win.

Yesterday he served for 2 sets to love. Tsonga came with crazy shots and the crowd played a big part.

It could have been a straight forward 3 setters with a bit less noise maybe.

I thought Djoko played well. Much better than in Rome in fact.

Nole has done what was needed.

His opponent really raised his game, yet he still prevailed.

Mark of a champion.
