Hope you will be supporting your neighbours tonight...
Anyway, looking into the future I have a question.
If FIFA turned around and said that the British countries would no longer be accepted as individual nations and would have to compete as one would you prefer to see N.Ireland join a UK team like the Olympics or join up with the Southerners and form a Rugby like Ireland team?
Considering a lot of your players have defected to ROI would you want to support them?
But knowing a UK team would be heavily weighted towards English players would you be able to support this team?
Hello Northern Ireland fans...

I would have no issues with an all GB team, imagine the players who could have strode the world stage in a team GB!!!
Best, Dalglish, Giggs, Souness,Whiteside etc!!!
Even an all Ireland football team would still be make up the numbers teams with an outside chance of qualifying!!
Imagine if another George Best came along seeing him with a chance to actually win something.................

It's a good question and personally I would support us as part of a UK team or an all Ireland team. As for a preference, I just don't have one. I would be absolutely gutted if the Northern Ireland team ceased to exist. I love going down to Windsor to support our team, even though I know at the end of the 90 minutes I will probably be disappointed. That's what being a football supporter is all about.
Having said that, if a gun was held to my head, I would probably prefer an all Ireland team as I believe that the players from the 6 counties of Northern Ireland would stand a slightly better chance of selection, albeit only a slightly better one.

Phil Jones, i have to ask, who is your cousin? You can't leave us hanging like that! As you're a Catholic, I would guess Sammy Clinghan. Assuming your cousin is also a Catholic of course.
As for the loyalist songs, I can honestly say I've never heard any at Northern Ireland matches. The worst I've heard is an anti Darron Gibson song and it makes me cringe to hear guys, some of whom I went to school with and would consider to be reasonably well educated, singing.
As for Rangers tops, I find it infuriating. I couldn't give a flying eff about Rangers but even if i did, I still wouldn't see it as appropriate or in any way supportive attire for our national side.

Been to most OWC home matches over the last few years. Can honestly say I have NEVER heard a single sectarian song or chant!

Same here Reiver. And yet, in spite of us attending most home games, it is those who claim to have attended solitary game who seem to always hear these sectarian chants. I find that interesting....

Just think, an all Ireland side would be humping Croatia right now.
Pffft.
The trouble with those who advocate an all Ireland side is that they would envisage it as an ROI side in all but name with a few "nordies" thrown in. For me, this desire is of a political nature rather than uniting two very separate nations. Would you really want to consign tss and tricolours to the bin just to have lafferty, Davis and Evans in the 22?

fokbaik, the question was more if the only options were a united Ireland or a united UK team. Just theoretical at the moment, but there have been whispers that FIFA may revoke the right for seperate national teams amongst the UK countries.

I find that unlikely. But even if it were to happen, the midfield that is Northern Ireland could ironically see us be considered a separate entity. After all, are we UK or are we Ireland? Everyone has their opinion. God, we really are a mess!

Umm, Whispers?
Anyway, UK team for reasons I outline above.
