I read this a lot in the press and on this forum, but it is always phrased as a factual statement & never as a question, as it for the purpose of this article.
Why is a manager that took over WBA, got them promotion to the PL in his first season in charge, but was subsequently sacked, just 60% into the club's returning PL season, because they dropped into the bottom 3 for the first time, regarded as a failure at this club?
On the above basis, before answering, please consider what the public perception if of managers such as Martinez at Wigan and Holloway at Blackpool?
Has the word failure been used for these two managers in recent times? My impression is that both Martinez & Holloway are revered for their achievements by media and public, rather than scorned.
RDM was a failure at WBA?

It has to be judged as a failure because the WBA board saw it that way. His last months being manager of West Brom saw them descend into a nose dive which ultimately would've seen them relegated had either, 1) he recovered the situation, or 2) the board made a change. The board decided to make that change, and it was one which kept them in the PL. So the EVIDENCE presented suggests Di Matteo failed his job to keep them in the PL. Just as AVB failed in his attempts to keep us in the top 4 and was “shown up” by RDM. Robbie himself was “shown up” by Roy Hodgson.

TP...........you have gone off on a slight tangent comparing RDM at WBA to AVB at Chelsea.
First of all the article is about RDM's full managerial stint at WBA and whether that should be judged a failure, not just his time as manager when WBA were in the PL.
And as I have said then on that basis why not also Martinez and Holloway who are regarded as successful managers not failures.
Secondly we will never know what would have happened had WBA stuck with RDM in the same way that Wigan stuck with Martinez.
Foe me the only safe conclusion to be made about RDM at WBA is that he struggled as their manager whilst they were back in the PL..........as have the aformentioned other two managers.

WBA were England's renowned "flip flop" club at the time. He was one among several other flips

I know, but the fact still dictate him as failing there because their board took an action which ultimately insured their survival - which looked increasingly bleak while Robbie was there. Just as Whelan has repeatedly decided not to replace Martinez in mid-season, coursing that to be a success.

I stand by my conclusion, he struggled!

I think RDM did a good job at WBA. I also think he did a good job at MK Dons.
As for the claim from the Spurs fan that he will be sacked by Xmas (he said October on another thread) all I will say is this. If the div that you are now thinking of employing can cling on till March, with nothing but regressive performances and results behind him, what basis do you think that someone who has already proved that he can do the job by winning 2 major trophies in 2 months, including one the Spurs rarely get to play in let alone win, then why is he going to be gone by October or Xmas?

When RDM was sacked by WBA, I asked their fans about it at the time and they seemed as shocked as anyone by it.
So whatever had brought on his dismissal, it wasn't that he'd lost the fans.
