25mill is loads for a defender

Can't think of many top german players coming to the prem, ballack maybe and klinssman (although in the twilight of his career), just does'nt seem to happen.

and maybe hummels can prove them all wrong

Hummels i quality yes, but I would rather stick to Evans, Jones and Smalling, as would SAF would aswell IMO.

This. We didn't buy Jones and Smalling for nothing. Them and Evans will be our CBs for years. Hummels has 4 years on Jones and there's no point in him just dropping out just to buy someone who (at the moment) is better.

There will always be players better individually than what we have. It's about a unit and growing a squad that is built as a team.

You could arguable buy a whole new 11 of players because individually they are better than what we have but it's not feasible.

I can't see SAF buying another CB for a while, maybe he never will as he will retire soon ish. 2/3 years time we will likely need to look at one as either a squad player or because Jones/Smalling/Evans aren't turning out as hoped.

Most important is a CM, Carricks getting on, Ando may never stay fit or be sold, Clevs might turn into one of those who can't really get enough games etc to develop into what could have been, Giggs and Scholes are very short term, Fletch may never be the same if he even returns, parks not got long left if any time at all.

That for me is essential, though we may be hoping to get by for a couple of years and then slot Powell in but well have to see
