Ambrose Going?

At the end of last season a couple of people said about Ambrose leaving and rumours suggest we've accepted a £250k bid from Birmingham.

Ambrose is like Scannell who is more a squad player but can win games. Another Hillsborough hero so I'm sure there will be another uprising against Dougie on other forums for letting him go but he has 1 year left on his contract so assume we're cashing in and getting rid of a high earner/ injury prone player.

I guess it depends on where people expect us to finish and therefore how good/ bad we're doing. I would like mid-table but realistically think it will be more like 17th again.

There's no definite teams to go down but some worse than us. We should finish above Millwall, Bristol City, Burnley, Peterborough, Sheff Weds, maybe Watford? or Derby?

To quote Freedman himself - the first and last 8 games are the most important of the season.

Shame you can’t quote on here, like the other Palace sites, so I’ll just pick a few references as I’m reading each post.

FFS Murray (U13197) True, I wouldn’t mind George Boyd to replace Ambrose!

MonThePalace (U9978)
At the moment it's just a rumour but if he doesn't leave now I'm sure he will leave next year for free.
Well, Ambrose has been Our Top Goalscorer the last 2-seasons, so I’d rather the goals = points & him leave on a free at the end of the season, rather than the quoted 250k. Plus, perhaps we could have persuaded him to sign a new deal in January?

Remember also we may be in for some loan signings

True, but I’d rather we promoted one of Our own, than use Aaron Martin for example. I mean, once we build him up, he’s off back to Southampton.

True, but you want your moneys worth when your paying for a Season Ticket each season, and willing to travel round the Country.
We are an established Championship Club! If we were gonna get Relegated than we would of in the 09/10 &/ or 10/11 season, but we didn’t!
So, time to MOVE ON & GET POSITIVE! I always EXPECT a top 6 finish! I mean, why would I bother getting a Season Ticket if I expected anything less? Same thing when families pay X-amount for a holiday!

It seems like the club is having to sell players to raise money and lower wages for new players. Hopefully Clyne and Ambrose are the last to leave.... well maybe we can live without KG

I was under the impression that we wouldn't necessarily have to sell to finance other players coming in but it looks like the financial position isn't as cosy as first intimated.
It would be nice to see more of the dead wood going out rather than players that are decent at this standard.

The fact remains as well that if we were a pleasure to watch and had a bit of wherewithal about us, more bums would have been on seats and hence more revenue.

Yeah I thought the same that we didn't have to sell and this was meant to be the big spending season but maybe the finances are worse than we thought. The club made £4m loss last year and seem to think it will be more this season so probably is a situation of whatever you can get you can spend. I'm not sure when the FFP rules come in but £4m is a lot of money to make up considering we have a turnover of £11m.

Let's be honest if we're losing 4 million a year then the right move is to sell the bigger earners and try and replace them with cheaper options who will hopefully perform.
We don't want to go down previous roads do we.
Personally after hearing about the 4 million loss i am quite happy with Ambrose moving on but on the other hand if money is that tight do we really think we will sign Mccormack, i would be very surprised.

In defence of Dougie! This time last year, he said his priority was survival in the Championship, which he achieved. He also said he would build from the back and, with one or two notable exceptions, he achieved a pretty tight defence. Now he acknowledges that we have to start scoring goals, so let's trust him to do that. What does worry me is that, having lost some core members of the defence, all the good work he did there may have been lost.

I assume some of these squad players are being replaced with academy players. From what I've heard the club are looking to get through at least 1 regular academy player per season and this year is meant to be De Silva and next year is Sow's. If they are as good as Williams then that's as good as a new signing! Another Jonny Williams wouldn't go a miss

Latest noise is that Ambrose deal is worth £1m. I take it £250k upfront and the rest on add ons.

Hopefully we sign another center back because at the end of the season we'll lose Martin and possibly McCarthy. Who else do we have?
