I've always been of the mindset that if we ended up in division three, then we would be a new club, starting afresh, at the bottom, and that would be that.
Its became evident that for an SFA membership to be issued, clubs must present 3 years of audited accounts to the SFA, and that is something the new incarnation of Rangers cannot possibly provide.
Because of this, in order to keep Rangers in Scottish Football, something most of the clubs in this country want aswell as the authorities, the SFA has treated Newco Rangers as Oldco Rangers, they are not issuing a new membership to Newco Rangers, they are transferring Oldco Rangers membership to the Newco.....but as a result, seeing as Oldco Rangers were facing sanctions from the SFA for their conduct, Newco Rangers are being hit with a 12 month transfer embargo while also being dumped down into the third division.
So in effect, instead of the club being allowed to start again at the bottom, the club has effectively been demoted to the bottom and slapped with a transfer embargo in the process.
Now how fair is all of this??
The authorities have every right to ensure that the correct criteria is met in order to issue a new SFA membership, so it is for that reason that we would not be granted a new SFA membership, and in order to inherit the oldco membership, we have to inherit the penalties and sanctions that they acquired....I can understand that point of view.
On the other hand though, the transfer embargo that the SFA slapped on us was ruled to be unlawful by the courts, the SFA want us in the league and that is why they are allowing the oldco membership to be transferred, so is this transfer embargo really nothing much more than a pacifier, or a punishment for punishments sake because people think we should be hit with something, and that demotion to division three is not enough, because we are not a new club starting at the bottom if we are inheriting these penalties, we are a club that has been thrown out of the top league and voted into the bottom one, so we have been demoted four divisions for our sins already.
Whats the general thoughts on this??
Is it fair that we are being told to take this embargo or else be totally turfed out, or is it totally unfair that the club is being hit with this on top of a four division demotion??
Is the transfer embargo fair?
