Bale - Club Vs Country!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18980500

Read about Bale missing on the GB olympic team because of an injury but then turning up for a practice match for Spurs, playing for 74 minutes and scoring a goal.

I think he is a to do that.

Thoughts?

They should have enticed him with bananas

It's his choice I suppose, at least someone else gets a chance in his place.

Wish Suarez did the same as Bale.

He was advised to miss the Olympics due to back issues, if he had signed up he would have had weeks of training to contend with which he wouldn't have been able to do.

It is easly possible for a back to heal in nearly a month (the squad was announced 2nd July)

As stated he was a big fan of playing, being Welsh myslef I think its a major shame Giggs got to play in abig tournament and it could happen to Bale too, he wouldn't have taken this decision lightly.

Player plays 70mins friendly 3 1/2 weeks after squad named shocker!

Its very strange, he clearly didn't mind taking all the sponsorship money before hand being the poster boy for the British team, but other players have gone with niggling injuries because they want to represent the Kingdom.

Spain are taking Euro Cup winners and Brazil the likes of Hulk and Marcelo. Its all a bit sad really.

Scribe - I'm sure if the medical team and Bale discussed the injury and put him on a lighter schedule than everybody else hed clearly have been fit, he is playing and training for Spurs after all.

It was obviously a case of he didn't want to get injured going into the league season, which is fair enough if he is man enough to admit it. Others have gone it on the back of injuries and decided it is worth the risk.
