Transfer statements that is...
Been quoted that one and maybe two more signings was still about to happend..
Who is that one he seems so certain of?
And who is it he is more of a "maybe" towards?
Lucas Moura is off and on, quicker than anything. It all seem quite of a "maybe" signing..
Have Brady n Blackett impressed Ferguson so much he got fate in the left back position, or have we a bring-back within the season clause in Fabios onloan contract? After all it seems like we're after another striker in RvP and that makes the other possible move. So according to the rumours the interest in a left back has in some way cooled down.
Is RvP or Lucas that 1st signing he is so certain of completing? And in that case whos the other? Is a deal with Baines already struck and is the 1st one?..
Imo, it seems like Lucas is that 1st, but its hard to know, as Sao Paulos president is so free speaking claiming nothing is going on. Had we only payed what the brazilians want, we seem to have a "free run" on Lucas, most other clubs have cooled down their interest. And in the RvP saga, we seem to compete now only with Juve, as it was claimed City is out of it. So then, we have to convince Wenger to sell us, and RvP to choose us instead of Juve, seems like a harder task than the one with Lucas.
It was claimed that Moyes would resign from his job at Everton if Baines was beeing sold to us(again just a rumour), that dosn't seem certain to happend at all so that seems dosnt either seem like one of the signings ferguson was thinking about when he was quoted. Seems like Moyes won that ultimatum if its any truth in it at all. But its also beeing said that no formal bid has been made for Baines, and he also seem quite happy in Everton(no whining about leaving wanting to leave them, eventho not every1 is like that [read modric])
also read that some argentinian cm was beeing linked, seems like the papers now adays know every guy we're after, the ones most intense is those were actually ending up signing, so it has been with kagawa and powell at least, and maybe that also means that it has to be lucas and rvp.
this is seriously killing me. so what u guys think about this, whos 1st prio or that certain signing to happend? who's the other?
Trying to figure out Fergies statements

I don't think you should read his comments as meaning we are literally looking at one or two players. It was a deliberately vague response and it isn't in his interests to give too much information away.

well id be rather disappointed if we gonna stick with the cms we have,
.............
So will I, but I am not going to worry myself to sleep about it.
Don't try and read between the lines of what SAF says. He is likely to do something completely different.

We're obviously very serious about signing Lucas so with him being in Manchester this weekend, I'd say there's a likely possibility that he and/or his agent could meet with Sir Alex and/or David Gill so hopefully we'll here some news by at the weekend or Monday at the latest.
There's been no new developments vis-a-vis RVP so that's anyone's guess really. It's up to the player where he wants to go. I can't see why a player as talented as Van Persie would want to play in Italy right now, and if City have chosen not to pursue him any further, then I guess we'd be the obvious destination but I'm wondering if he could yet be convinced to stay at Arsenal.
I'm hoping whoever we're trying to sign, we can bring them in A.S.A.P so they can get used to their new team-mates and new surroundings etc so they can make the best possible start to the season.
Hopefully there'll be some news before we play again on the 5th.

I think that answers your own question as to why we don't just meet their valuation.

Certainly don't want a deadline day signing, they almost never come good until after Christmas. As TRS points out getting your business done quickly is vital.

For reasons I dont quite understand, Sao Paulo will apparently recieve 10% less of any fee for Lucas should they sell him after August 1st. Meaning they will probably hold out for more after that date.
So if it isnt done by August 1st, it probably wont happen.

Bloodred
I would think that if they're willing to let him go, they'll want to do it before July ends.
Lucas is set to earn 20% of any transfer fee paid to Sao Paulo for the player and that figure will rise to 30% by August.
As I said yesterday, if Lucas was willing to take a smaller amount from any transfer fee paid for him to Sao Paulo, it might persuade Sao Paulo to sell him for a little less than the 38-39 million euros they want for the player.

Bloodred, it's quite common in Brazil, and even some Spanish and Portuguese players now. Basically, they get get a certain percentage of a transfer fee, and apparently in Lucas' case, his percentage of the transfer goes from 10% to 20% come August.
