ATP Masters 1000: TORONTO, Rogers Cup

If ever a saying had a meaning, this one does today: Life goes on.

Yesterday's glory is behind and slowly but surely beginning to gather tiniest particles of dust.

And while the golden shimmer of Olympic Sunday still makes some fans' eyes wide and wild, tennis circuit relentlessly moves on.

The magical, beautiful, inspirational, once in a lifetime Double Wimbledon is over giving way to blandness of American hard-courts.

The last slam of the year is just a few weeks away, and the two traditional 1000 Masters events are coming up back to back.

Federer and Nadal have already pulled out of the tournament as well as some other players. Still the field is strong:
Djokovic, Murray, Tsonga, Berdych, Tipsarevic, Raonic, Fish , Isner, Simon, Del Potro, Gasquet etc.

Nole will be keen to put a relatively disappointing grass season behind and defend the title in Toronto, for it was here it all started for him in 2007

And we have a bit of a surprise finalist, Gasquet downs Isner in straights 7:6 6:3

Let's hope for a repeat of this, this time tomorrow

Happy for Gasquet. I expect he will lose tomorrow (even if by some miracle he ends up playing Tipsy) but I am happy whenever he shows any sort of form.

Two nice SHBHs (he plus Tommy) have done well here. In truth, in spite of what people say about Gasquet's backhand (and justifiably so to a large extent), I actually prefer watching Tommy's backhand. But I am not complaining, I will take Gasquet over Isner any time.

I"m very picky when it comes to backhands, esp sbh. For me Fed's is the best and most beautiful by faaaaar.
Then come all the rest: Youzhny etc.
Gaasquet's ok, I don't think it's either relieable or aesthetical enough to deserve all that praise. It' a bit overdone for me.

Oh it has been raining there all week I hope they get to play tonight.

NITB, earlier this week tennis.com mentioned something about some "former junior coach" (?) of Nole suggesting some possibles issues (?) that Nole may currently have.

Have you seen it? What are your thoughts?

yes, I saw that interview. This time ST beat me to it somehow, very sharp he can be
The junior coach..mmmm...she's OK, but a bit vain and greedy and full of herself tbh, a fine coach, thought, that noone can deny.
Now, the thing YOU are itching to know....well, roumour has it it's his parents, you can fill in the blanks .

...and Nole wins. Much more straightforward than last night. Tipsy did not pose too much of a challenge but Nole also looked much sharper than last night.

The Best played lovely tonight....sizzled with that forehand

Congrats Nole well done. He looked quite good and Gasquet did not - hence the scoreline.

I know nitb this was a happy result for you but I find it a bit sad that we have three of the top four missing, the remaining one has been struggling with form, yet nobody from the field is able to step up and claim a victory. If not this week, then when do they want to win anything of significance?

I don't find it sad at all.
I do find it sad how hard Nole's path has been made by draw rigging etc though.
