What are we in for.....

in the Championship ...One thing I think we'll see a lot more of than we did in the lower leagues is the 'feigned injury'. While this is in epidemic proportions in hte Prem league, there will be a fair share of clubs (ex Prem ) who deploy this tactic.

Every slightly mistimed tackle will result in their player screaming in agony and rolling around in excrutiating pain,,,the refs of course will be conned and we'll all be left angry and frustrated by it all.

All the annoying elements of the game like time wasting, going into the corners, pretending to be tripped or deliberately putting your leg across, pretending you've been headbutted or elbowed in the face, feigning injury and trying to get our lads booked and sent off ....are we ready for this ?

I suppose it goes with the territory, and of course we'd rather be in this league....but it's going to be highly annoying, I get annoyed when I see it on TV and I don't care who wins...so when it's against Town...let's just hope we have some decent refs...

Well, I was watching a bit of Chelsea v Man City, and I thought well it's just a carry on from last season...every tackle a guy screams, rolls over and/or waves for a card to the ref...it's pathetic ! But, no, I wouldn't rather be in league 1....but I would like clubs to play the game with some degree of honesty, is that too much to ask ?

If it were me I'd have a sniper in the stands who would blow the brains out of the cheating gets, but I dare say some might see that as being a bit extreme...

I'm with you Jacko but it's passed the point of no return I feel. Governing bodies will retrospectively ban folk for fouls that weren't seen but refuse to ban divers, play actors, etc.

The players are the only ones with the power to eradicate this because to totally enforce any sanctions FIFA would have to upset poster boys such as Messi, Ronaldo, Rooney, etc, who are as bad as anyone for behaving this way. Only last night Rooney dived to win a penalty which he was only too happy to pick himself up to score.

After the Ashley Young theatrics last season I saw so many supporters try and use the argument "well what if he dives and wins a decisive penalty in the last minute of the Euro 2012 final, would you be upset then?" Even fans are of the opinion now that as long as it benefits them, then it is perfectly acceptable!

Sad to say it has gone too far now. It's a fabric of the game we all love. Even some computer games have enabled you to use a dive button such is the knowledge of what goes on.

Why do you think Platini is so eager to oppose the use of technology? Because UEFAs golden boys, Barcelona, as good as their play is, would be shown up as a bunch of divers and cheats and if suspensions were in play for these offences, guys like Sergio Busquets would probably only be eligible for selection about 5 times per season!

Good thread Jacko.
Kind of takes the wind out of the sails a bit doesn't it.
You're right.
I'm glad 'we are up',But not too sure I'm ready for what's going to be on display. Time will tell.

It's no secret I'd be 'picking my home games' this season if I was there permanently, Football as the game I knew & liked is not the game of today, unfortunately in my opinion.

Other sports manage to keep a tight reign on cheats & bad behavior... why can't the same be applied to football ?
Frustrating.

It all sound like Gary Roberts last season to me.

What are we in for....

Bigger crowds home and away.
Heavy handed policing and stewarding home and away.
Silly prices to Town on our travels(£31 at Ipswich)

The 'worst' incident I had with policing was way back in the the 60's, 2 days after my 19th birthday we went to derby by train. Derby I think were top and Town 8th so it was a big game for both clubs.

We piled out of the 'special' at Derby station and were ushered down a concourse under the tracks. At the end were a load of concrete steps to get up to street level where about 500 police were waiting for us.

It was a warm March day and we got 'kettled' in the concourse, for what felt like ages but was probably 10-15 minutes. There was no air, the underground concourse was concrete and there were hundreds of us with people pushing from the back. It was boiling and tempers were getting frayed, obscenities were given out and a few things lobbed at the cops.

There was no way forward or back and I suddenly felt the fear...I mean I was a cocky 19 yo but this was a frightening situation.

Eventually they let us up the steps and then marched us with dogs, Police Vans etc down the main street like we were a herd of cattle, down the the Baseball Ground..where we ended up losing 0-1.

Derby was a grim place and ground was set amongst old brick terrace houses and the Rolls Royce works ...cobbled street, boarded up windows and extremely abusive Derby fans..

Thankfully we've moved on from all this and football is less tribal and combative (and that's just the fans).

I don't think Town fans had a particular reputation in those days, but football fans in general did.
