We all know Wazza is world class, at least I believe so anyway but I would like opinions on this. I don't tend to check the United board/page much and only have started to recently because of events I don't need to bring up right now, anyway saying that I don't know if this is a regular debate brought up amongst you guys.
So my question is has Rooney turned out to be the player he was meant to become. We all know he broke into the scene with that great goal Vs Arsenal in 2002 and his career has gone from strength to strength no doubt. I guess being a world class player would suggest that he has done what the title asks, right?
My opinion.... The fact that him and Ronaldo were on the rise together and were on par with eachother in their younger years I choose to judge him on Ronaldo's standard! Harsh? Well like I said they were on the same level and both had equal enough opportunity to be as great as eachother but Ronaldo had that great 08 season and really left Wazza in his wake and now the rest is history (even though I believe Ronaldo is playing in a weaker league). I just think Rooney should've been a part of the battle between Ronaldo Vs Messi if he became what his promised showed.
Or am I not giving enough credit to Ronaldo for improving immensely?
Did Rooney Fulfil His Potential?

Mr Chelsea
Some of the redtinted fans on our board are So far up Rooneys backside that they can't seem to see his deficiencies. But still he is a terrific striker and our most important attacker. He is definitely one of the best striker in the world. But if he could sort out his first touch and close control he would be unstoppable.

I very rarely if ever see anyone saying Rooney has no deficiencies, or just blindly think everything he does is great.
However, you say 'he is a terrific striker and our most important attacker and definitely one of the best strikers in the world', so surely you'd generally expect throughout the year to see more supportive praising comments/articles about him from United fans than negative ones.
This suggests to me there is far more of a negative 'tint' when it comes to Rooney than a 'red' one.

Firstly rooney is not world class.
Strikers who have been better whilst rooney has been playing:
Eto
Ibra
Klose is a pure goal scorer is ability on the ball is nowhere near rooney, but still rooney has the better goal scoring record
Torres, has had 2 diabolical years, and even at his peak rooney was the better player has he scored more goals and contributed more to the team.
Aguero last season was his best ever season playing in a supposedly much better team and rooney scored more
Tevez talent wise he is equal to rooney at his best, over the last 8 years what has he achieved that rooney has not.
Villa another pure striker yet rooney has consistently scored more goals than him.
Drogba at his prime his goal scoring record was not has impressive has rooney. In his 1st two years he was nothing special. Then had 2 great seasons and since then has only been able to turn up in big games.
messi, ronaldo are miles ahead of rooney and we accept this. etc
Ibrahimovic also has my respect. But saying rooney is inferior to any of the other strikers out there is nothing short of blasphemy.

the GINGER PRINCE'S apprentice
All the strikers i named i believe are consistently better than Rooney.
Rooney is a good player with a good goal scoring record but that i look for more in a player.
Aguero for example, brilliant interplay with a fantastic turn of pace not to mention an array of finishes.
Torres in his liverpool days was also explosive, brilliant turns in and around the box followed by clinical finishes.
Tevez since hes been at city shows far more technical ability with the acute passes he plays with silva and nasri. He finishes just as well as rooney but also has that ability to run at players.
klose has always been a great goal scorer but it his movement that makes the opportunities. once again shows an intellect for the game rooney does not have.
drogba was brilliant at everything under mourinho and ancelloti the only thing he was missing was good interplay which was obvious when they tried two upfront.
Villa has everything, he is bar far the best out and out striker in the world. he literally can do everything that i have mentioned, dribble, be clinical, pass and move, make space with clever movement and turn a game out of nothing.
I watch rooney and see a lack of natural talent, what i do admire about rooney is how he has played at the top of his game so often as i believe he is limited.
Many will say he underperformed at the euros or in tight games against good sides, where as i dont expect match winning performances out of rooney. Due to the hype around him and the public constantly being told hes englands best players we expect to much of him and continue to be disappointed.
Rooney isnt even united best attacker, rooney was a better player at 18 when he was faster and agile. Once that left him he was never going to be as good as the elite.
Rooney is still a good player but he is nowhere near world class and he will never be.

Aside from the obvious Messi and Ronaldo the only players I would end up putting above him is maybe Eto who has a few years on him and wasn't as good in his younger days as Rooney has been.
IMO anyone who thinks under 20 Rooney is better than the current one needs their head checked [meant in the least offensive way possible]

comparing Rooney to Ronaldo would be a little up-ish comparison , as both are different kind of players . Whether you admit it or not , English players and Spanish players have their own dna of playing the game . So , you can't have them both on the same table .
And of the question about Rooney being a part in Ronaldo vs Messi affair , that's something imaginably un-possible i.e something over impossible .

I know you never said I didn't have the right, and the fact you've now replied like this shows I got my point across using your phrasing, since I felt the same way i.e. it was silly to reply to my original comments by suggesting I'd said you didn't have the right to comment negatively on Rooney for his performance v Everton when I'd done no such thing.
I also don't know what me being astounded by the general negativity against Rooney from his own fans (not specifically v Everton, but generally, ongoing, day after day, match after match, season after season) has to do with your right to speak or comment. I can be shocked, surprised or astounded by anything, it doesn't affect anyone's right to comment.
I'm not totally sure what specifically you are referring to when you say 'and obviously you think its unfair, which looks like a bit of a problem to you.'
But I'll reiterate what I said before, because I'm not sure you've understood the GENERAL point I was making, as I have no issue with people criticising a specific performance, or an aspect of Rooney's game etc etc, but the fact he gets slated every single day, month, season on these boards by his own fans, despite what he brings to our team, amazes me.
It may not amaze you, and if you think overall Rooney deserves more criticism than praise from his own fans for his general performances, especially with regards to pulling his weight in the team, then that's your prerogative, but as I said before it's also mine to think the total opposite.
Maybe you've just taken the comment a little personally, but when I made it I wasn't aiming it at you specifically, it was the general negative tone of the comments/articles over a long time when it coms to Rooney.

Seems a tad contradictive.
As the highest or one of the highest paid players in the team, who wanted to leave unless he had guarantees of future quality signings etc, I would of thought he would stay on top of his fitness and game to prove he is worth every penny.
I dont take anything personal on here mate
