Very true Le Rouge
Also i'm sure the enormous size of our squad is hampering us now in what we can go for.
There is a lot of deadwood from GJ & Coppel signings that didn't work out. Proof again that contracts given to speculative signings should be short ones.
Both managers contributed greatly to the better parts of our squad of course, but there are bound to be duff ones.
Short contracts can always be re-negotiated
Long ones are hazardous if they dont flourish

very true BRR but offering short contracts can blow up in our face say we only gave maynard a short contract 2 years? we would of lost him after his 21 goals
plus hunt is on a 2 year deal so we only have a year of his services left
keith cant predict if a player is worth a year contract or 3 year

Basso is out of contract and available for nothing.
With Fat Gary gone, he might be tempted back!

'I'd give Hunt a chance at CB if he still wont go, by all accounts he's been very good there for the reserves'
By all accounts ????? - They weren't at Twerton the other night.
He'd snap in half against a Championship striker.
It's a toss up who's the weakest tackler - Hunt or LJ.
That's how much I rate Hunt .

Crikey, he can't be worse than LJ in the tackle?
LJ doesn't tackle!

perhaps LJ taught *unt how to tackle

Hunt & LJ - two who are surplus to requirements.
Players like these are preventing us from developing.
If they had any self respect they would tear up their contracts and move on.
When you think about people like Mann, Tainton, Garland and Sweeney etc, who tore up their contracts to save our club, the ones now hanging on to cash in fill me with contempt.

Spot on BRR - Contempt.
'Players like these are preventing us from developing.

Especially as one of them was given an EXTENDED contract by his Father a few months before the sack!

Yes, well...GJ was a good manager so it was worth the sacrifice, although I squirmed as much as anyone when he started picking his sprogg instead of Hartley, Sno etc.
Therein lies the downfall. And of course at Wembley, when he played Elliott at full back to accommodate LJ.
Why why why !!!
LJ was his great weakness and the last straw, but for this he could have been a serious piece of work could GJ
