To Save our Board...

The amount of WUMs on our board lately seems ridiculous. Most articles are written by rival fans trying to get us wound up. They don't really get to me in all honesty (slighty contradictory then, writing this article) but the thing that has is that I do like to read through and comment on interesting articles on our board (as we all do).

So when it's filled with barely any articles of any quality and value, it becomes tedious and boring.

Hence, I write this article to do us all a favour and write about FOOTBALL. Wonderful game, isn't it?

More specifically, I'll pick the over-used and abused topic of our midfield.

I've noticed this Ganso lad had been linked to us quite a bit recently, and admittedly I'd never seen him play, so I gave him a look on youtube.

Whereas this can't be hugely informative as they aren't full games etc, the videos on there can give you a vague picture of a player's attributes, style, preferences etc.

With Ganso, I watched a few of the clips where they were simply videos of specific games and all his touches in the games.

He looked good. Very composed, seemed very adept at the one touch play with some lovely little flicks and passes. I must say, I watched 3 games on it, they included his every involvment and in those 270 minutes or so you see him mis-place about 3 passes.

What got me though, was every video I watched he plays along the same CM partner (hardly a surprising prospect at any club other than our own) and that CM partner was the SPITTING IMAGE of Anderson.

Not just his appearance, his play, his style, his control, then pass, then burst forward almost with the pass (which is why we all admire his attacking abilities).

Obviously they will differ on significant things but they were two of the most alike players I've seen, the interesting part is, Ganso played tremendously well with this Ando look-a-like (who was also number 8, coincedently).

If the rumours are true, could this be a factor? The fact he already plays so well with a player much alike one of our own? The player who is expected to be our most prominent CM next year? The one who HAS to make his break through and show us quality and more importantly, consistently!?

Just some food for thought, there.

Me personally, I wanted Nasri more than anyone else. Whether this was because I've always admired him as a player since the Marseilles days or because I have many close friends who are Arsenal fans and would've loved to get Nasri 7 (or whatever number he'd have been, 16 maybe) on my new shirt and go round to their houses wearing it, I'm unsure.

I'm excited by Ganso as a prospect, very much so, but this could be 'new foreign, cool sounding name' syndrome.

I've always had a fondness for Yoann Gourcuff but I understand that he is very, very hit and miss with new teams. He'll either be incredible, or absolute pants.

In all honesty, I can't think of many more top midfield players we could get! I did have a little wonder the other day, though.

Bring in Riquelme just for one season. A season long loan or something. Henrik Larsson tactics.

I think this could be excellent as he's hugely experienced, one of the closest to Scholes I can think of, and would allow young Pogba, Morrison, Cleverly etc to be brought into the team slowly and wouldn't hinder their development as he's nearing the end of his career.

Fergie's gotta earn his money on this one, I'd hate to be in his position right now! Thoughts? Ideas?

As I said, I haven't seen much, so I'll bow to your observations. In the video I watched Ganso was playing a bit like a number 10 - but then again, maybe the only showed the bits of the game where he was getting forward.

I must say, I find the idea of relying on Sneijder 'shocking people' by playing well in a new role a bit scary. It's a crucial position and a hell of a lot of money to spend on a gamble that a player can do a different job. ...Not that I have a strong feeling he couldn't do it.

It'll be interesting to see if he plays tomorrow and how he copes as it's meant to be a heat wave in Chicago, a great test of fitness.

............................

I don't think SAF will start him in this one. Carrick and Giggs will probably start this, or possibly Carrick and Park in the middle.

He did indeed.

He played almost the full game the match before, too.

If he wears the fat suit he could be down to his fighting wait in time for the new season.

Hopefully we see some of Cleverley over the course of the game.

Russian,

Sneijder is a funny one. I think most people just look at his undoubted talent and think 'he's the one'. It is a big ask for him to perform commendably in a position he hasn't played in a long time, I agree, but I'm sure a few weeks back one of the coaches said they couldn't think of a player better suited to us...quite encouraging.

Good article OP and I agree with much of what you said, and on the WUM thing I do for sure. However the answer is simple now we have the WUM filer, just block anyone you see doing the things mentioned and they will disappear from sight. This is exactly the approach I've taken and now see very little of it, even if I also see few sensible articles as well. When others start filtering these guys as well, hopefully those remaining will continue or start posting decent articles for discussion and the site will improve.

These things take time, and when the season kicks off I expect it will help as well.

Ganso was a disappointment at the Coppa this year.

Left footed Zidane?

More like Left footed Sunday league player.

WTGL,

Although your points may be exaggerated, they have some truth in that at this year's Copa, he was disappointing.

What is commendable, though, is that he was the first to criticise his performances and stress the need to improve himself.

Good for him, at least he has some humility

I want to see Ganso become a world class player, outright playmakers are becoming extinct... but he'll probably be another Diego.

Diego! Haha. I used to think he'd be incredible back at Wolfsburg!

I was gutted when Juve bought him and we didn't..guess that's why I'm not the manager, though.
