So, if you look at the link, It appears to me that Megson is admitting defeat in his search for new players on a full time basis. He refers to the ‘Quality’ not ‘Quantity’ cliché and states he’ll be taking short term loans as and when the need arises.
I’ve got to say, for the first time in the close season, this worries me. I am desperately hopeful that he pays a couple of quid for a striker capable of knocking in 20 goals AND gets a sprightly youngster on loan from the prem once the season kicks in and the Prem teams are certain of who they are making available for loan. I’m pretty sure Batth will return once the season begins but I hope this article isn’t quietly stating that we are done in the transfer market!

I think the problem is that some fans think we are loaded so should be paying mega fees and mega salaries.
Morrison is past it in my opinion. He relied on pace in his pomp but he has now lost it.

Why were they shocking decisions? 2 of the players Irvine signed, R Johnson and Madine, are in our first team if the friendlies we've played are anything to go by. The other 2 haven't really had a chance but we've managed to sell 1of them and the other, Reynolds, may turn out to be decent.
As for the wage bill, how do you know these 4 players 'massively increased' it? Do you know what they're on? If so fair enough but I'd suggest you don't. Also, we've lost Heffernan, Potter, Miller, Teale, Mellor and a few others so I'd image the wage bill has actually gone down.
If the players Megson want's aren't available or are too much money then fine, there's no point just chucking cash around because we're short on players. Having said that, if we're quibbling over 1 or 2 thousand a week for Mellor I think it's a bit silly, given, as you pointed out, we have 2 strikers at the club and the season starts in 12 days.

Personally I think we gave up on Reynolds & Morrison in particular far too easily and would suggest that they caused problems behind the scenes (as was rumored at the time).
The problem with over paying players is that it causes dressing room problems and everyone else wants a pay rise. Seeing as Mellor HAS to move cos Preston can't afford to pay him but yet he's still there suggests he isn't as in demand as he thinks!

I think we gave up them too easily. Not sure what problems they could've caused though; they'd only been there a few months! I'm hoping Reynolds gets a go this season anyway.
Point taken about the wages but at the same there's always going to be different players getting paid different amounts and if a player bangs the goals in they can't really argue. Anyway, looks like the Mellor deal is dead - I'd have liked to see him at Wednesday but hopefully we'll find someone better.

The rumour of "fisticuffs" was Danny Jones as I remember it. He also fell out with Coke over his smoking and drinking.
