On the 16th April 2011, the Tim Vaughan trained Beshabar romped home to take the Coral Scottish Grand National and although he’s only had one run out since that time, last November 2011 at Newbury where he finished 5th, he is now aiming for the toughest race of them all – the 2013 Grand National, and he’s doing it without a prep race!
Vaughan confirmed that Beshabar is on the road to Aintree, after resuming training earlier this month and the plan is to slowly build up to the biggest race of his life in six months time.
For those of you with fantastic memories, you may remember that Beshabar was supposed to be entered into the 2012 Grand National but had to be ruled out with a small tendon strain which ruled him out for the season.
And hoping that history will not repeat itself before April 6th 2013, Vaughan said to the South Wales Argus “As it stands we go straight there, he’s summered well and will be on the horse walker for a month or so and then do his road work."
Of course strategy plays a huge role in the run up to any Grand National and Vaughan believes a good prep run could hamper the bid, in light of a higher handicap mark, which will probably be around the 11-00 mark.
“He looks an ideal Grand National runner, so we’re going for one big crack at it," Vaughan added.
Currently at ante post odds of 25/1
===============================
A big task, if you ask me.
Another 25/1 shot is of far more interest. On His Own
On His Own, was travelling as well as anything, before falling at Beechers on the second circuit. It was also Ruby's preferred ride, before him not taking part. Which resulted in Paul Townend taking over & as we all know Neptune Collonges going on to win. He entered the Grand National on a mark of 148 and is now rated 143. If this can be conserved until April, it would give him a fantastic low weight to race off. So there you have it, a huge leap of faith for an ante-post punt on next years Grand National.
