Oh yeah
GSE sign the deal as they have no option but to, in the interim you approach every top club about a deal in Jan.

He looks like Boris Johnson with the fat sucked out of him, peeled and dipped in beetroot.

Even for big clubs, signing a 17 year-old for 5-10 million is a very big gamble. They are all watching him, as they are watching many other young stars. Do you try to buy now and risk him not making the grade? Do you wait and risk the price doubling, trebling in a year or two?
Clough would say that 10K per week now is far too much too young, and would increase the chances of his feet leaving the ground. It's a balancing act - trying to reward him appropriately while not letting him think he has already made it. If he was demanding a four-year deal on 10K now, holding a gun to the club's head, that wouldn't make me optimistic for a long-term career.

You are a surgeon Vidal, so ten a penny in comparison. This lad already captained the U17 England side. The world knew of him before we did. It also shows that his advisors are well embedded in the FA which is hardly surprising for a Repton lad. As I said, this lad is unique and should not be judged as a Bennett, Hendrick or even a Walcott.

Hughes has just come on for England

One thing. It gives me hope for the game that a skinny wretch can even get as far as he has without being told that if he is too little to out-muscle an opponent he won't make the grade.

He played very steadily, the usual mix of assured touches and passes through gaps you didn't even realise were there, plus a first-time blockbuster that nearly took a defender's head off.
Took to it like a duck to water.

Managed to see the last 10 minutes. As with Derby, there is a sort of assured effortlessness in the way he wanders around, gets on the ball and efficiently builds play. He is developing a directness too, when the situation arises. He seems to improving exponentially. 50 million!

Watched the whole game. He came on and played like he was born for it...assured passing , running tackling, had a beautiful chance for a screamer til an Irish kid's back got in the way! I know how the world works, but I hope we can hang onto him and see success WITH him, rather than watch him sadly from afar...

To sell him in January would be madness on a par with the Huddlestone deal. Look at the Wilfred Zaha situation. Bolton bid £5m for him in January and the year is not yet out and he will probably command a fee double that. He has been allowed to develop over two seasons. If Hughes is already attracting attention after just four months, surely that indicates a special talent.
It is obvious that he will leave sooner rather than later, but it should be at a time of our choosing, injuries-permitting.
Players can get injured, but you do not have to sell at the first offer. It works at every level. Keogh was sought after by Bristol City & Cardiff, bidding began at £750k before reaching over a million.
