Hatton calls it a day

Ricky Hatton announces his retirement from boxing. "I haven't got if anymore. That's the end of Ricky Hatton."

A very emotional press room. No questions, just statements of thanks from journalists. Many have followed him for 16yrs. Huge respect here.

Hatton says he can't keep making excuses. I'm a different man now, I will be the best father, the best trainer, the best boyfriend I can be.

Thanks for all the memories Ricky.

Not the greatest boxer ever, but he was an honest, dedicated professional. Wish him all the best.

Hardly a difficult decision to make. Everybody knew it was ludicrous to come out of retirement. He has ruined his legacy.

Tbh if anything he has increased his legacy/respect, he has been through hell and back the past 3 years and had some serious depression problems and sadly ended up drinking even more and getting involved with drugs, yet he managed to put all that behind him and shed 5 stone and make a comeback after 3 and a half years out against a guy who had only lost once and was a former champ and he actually done well and looked like winning for a while. No shame in that whatsoever tbh.

I guess all those years of abusing his body finally caught up to him

-----------

This , you just can't do it,you either have to dedicate your life to boxing and not drink and abuse your body or you don't do it, you won't get anywhere doing both as proven time and time again.

It's the body shots that kill you off when you've drunk in the past as well because it weakens your stomach muscles, seen so many examples of this over the past few years, look at Kevin Mitchell, totally ruined his chances of being a world class fighter, can't take a body shot that well anymore, Nicky Cook was another classic example

Complete tosh. He has gained more respect from going into the ring after all he has been through to fight a former champion.
