In the summer there were reports linking us with 22 year old Pachuca and Mexican midfielder and Olympic Gold Medalist Hector Herrera and it turned out that we had officially made contact with Pachuca over the player which Pachuca themselves had confirmed. We had watched him before the Olympics at the 2012 Toulon Festival and Sir Alex along with our coaching staff watched him at Mexico's training base which it seems was at Carrington.
He suffered an ankle injury in the Olympic Final and it was thought that Sir Alex was keen to hold out until January or even the following summer to make an official offer.
There have been some developments yesterday and today because there were rumours last night that he would join Porto in July however Pachuca have confirmed that they have received offers from Porto, Manchester United and a French club but that no agreement has been reached. It seems that the clubs most interested in the player are ourselves and Porto.
Andres Fassi, Pachuca's vice president was in no doubt back in the summer that United wanted Herrera and other people at Pachuca believe that Herrera's transfer to a European club is a matter of when and not if.
So perhaps a midfielder may be on the manager's radar afterall and maybe we could see one joining in the summer or if we have to react to another bid from Porto, a deal could be agreed in January.
This was the article I created in August.

@CheGiaevara: From what I can gather; if Pachuca are to sell Herrera, they'd wish for the biggest deal ever in Mexican football (more than €8m).

@CheGiaevara: They would also wish for Herrera to remain in Mexico until the summer of 2013 before completing his move to Europe.
This transfer is made for us, we always love getting business done early.

No way of knowing what we value him at.
He might just be a player at a relatively low price that we are considering buying to improve the squad? I don't know how good he is though, but if it does get too high I'm sure they'd just persue another target.

True Darren.
I wouldn't be surprised if we hear more about this one soon.

I really do hope so Nan but it just wouldn't surprise if one or both stayed on.

I think we should offer them in part exchange.

Could we try and make them believe it was for a part exchange deal when in fact it would be just for a very long holiday to Mexico?

I hope so.
