Back to where we belong

I think the time has come to make the most of our global position and start buying some proper players. We are still a huge worldwide brand....but it is 20 odd years since we last won the title! Titles are won by having the best players...simple as that. Yes, you need to have good young players coming through and we have those in abundance. We also have a bunch of experienced internationals that are also vital.

What we don't do though is buy the odd big money, established player. OK..we blew a load on Carroll and a few others but all we bought was potential. Look at City, Chelsea and United....if they want a top drawer star player then they go out and get him. Sometimes you just have to pay the cash if you want to progress, catch up and overtake the top teams.

Success can be achieved relatively quickly when the right players are bought. And players will come if the club pay the big money. We just never seem to buy established players. Can you ever imagine us buying Van Persie, Tevez, Falcao, etc. I would rather see one big time player each window rather than messing about with 3-4 average ones...we have plenty of them as it is.

And it has nothing to do with current league position. Show em the money and they will come. We have seen more than enough of potential coming in and not quite living up to the billing.

Any more years in the wilderness and we seriously may see our global standing suffer. We need to do something before it is too late
