I've just seen the 3rd article, in 3 days, about Suarez.
Do you think they're sparking a topical debate, or resorting to tabloid tactics and fanning the flames of controversy?
The reason I ask is. I've had 2 attempted comments dis-allowed. Both were critical of the nature of the articles, and Ben Smiths geography. Apparently Melwood is in Kirkby, and not West Derby .
I also asked whether there was co-incidence in the drop in standards, on the whole not just relating to the Suarez articles, and the move to Salford.
The above is not allowed, but calling a player a cheat, and racist is.
Good old Auntie Beeb.
BBC, Sparking debate or fanning the flames?

Of course it's much worse cheating at football than it is to cheat on your wife and family, nothing controversial there eh?

He didn't just 'cheat on his wife' though did he?
He cheated on his wife, with his sister in law, for years, then used the courts to keep it quiet, then threatened to sue anyone who revealed his secret. All the while portraying himself as an honest family man, and taking in money for this image.
But your right. No controversy, nothing to see here.

But it is FOOTBALL that the fans have paid to go and watch - don't they people who pay the players wages deserve to see an outcome to the game that is as fair as possible?
Cheating of any kind, be it diving, professional fouls, deception- all these things are cheating the public.
This is not directed at Suarez, but includes him as he is one of a few who stand out as regular cheats.
Bring in red cards for the most obvious attempts to change the course of the game by cheating.

Damn right it is, I couldn't care less if John Terry, Ryan Giggs, Rooney and any other footballer who has ever cheated went out and slept with the entire population of China, why should I care? I watch them because they play football their fidelity or lack of it matters to me about as much as their latest haircut or what wallpaper they have up in their room.
I can imagine to a lot of Heat or Hello readers all this affair stuff is shocking, disgusting and very controversial but any actual football fan who isn't a woman who enjoys reading gossip magazines shouldn't really care...

I don't buy this. 'Suarez cheats regularly' line at all. I'm not saying he never does wrong, believe me he does, or trying to excuse him. But he dived once, against Stoke, this season, and was rightly pilloried for it. Apart from that there's been the handball against Mansfield, there's a queue of pundits lining up to say it was ball to hand. Plus plenty of players/ex players who've admitted they'd do the same.
Everything is blown out of proportion, in comparison to some other prolific cheats in the league.

I know you'll be one of the first one here slating Suarez, because he's a bad role model to kids. Yet your willing to forgive Giggs his indiscretions.
You aren't bothered that multi millionaire footballer Giggs threatened to sue anyone that revealed his secret?

Giggs' indiscretions were private and not what he is paid for. Suarez's indiscretions are on the pitch.

Are the endorsements and advertising not paid for? Aren't they linked to what he does on the pitch, as well as off it?
He gained them endorsements etc by promoting himself as clean cut family man.

To a certain extent I don't care for players off the field activities, you'll never hear me bring up Gerrard and the DJ for example (well I might but only as a counter and never as something I am personally concerned about)

So I should be bothered about Giggs indiscretions that happened away from the pitch because advertisers used him (partially) on the basis he is a clean cut family man?
Why the hell would I care about some random company that used him to sell their product and then were disappointed about his affair. Besides a little bit of infidelity doesn't seem to affect their ability to sell products. If it really was to a level that would affect them they could drop Giggs from any advertising but I haven't heard off that once.
