I just drove out of Oakwood and to the M1 to check the roads for the London-bound Mrs 666: major roads passable with care, the estate roads are a gamble.

It was amazing watching the progress of the snow last night via the uk traffic camera networks. Rain in the north-west soon turned to snow and blizzard conditions gradually progressed south and east, generally preceded by sleet before the heavy stuff moved in.

So last night the sleet arrived in now sunny NW Leicestershire and it turned.....

to freezing rain.

We never really got any snow, yet for a while there was white-out conditions on the M1 as far south as junction 25. The roads still look very icy this morning, but it's got another hour and a half before I venture out to PPS.
