BBC Sport's David Ornstein reports that Arsenal are hopeful of signing a left-back before the transfer window closes to cover for Kieran Gibbs, who is out for three weeks with a thigh injury.
Arsenal retain their interest in Barcelona striker David Villa but the ball is firmly in the Spanish club's court. Ornstein, who has come into work wearing a suit such is the magnitude of the day, says that Arsenal have also been linked with Cameroon international Gaetan Bong of Valenciennes.

Been better this season no question, but still has a lot to improve on for me. Would rather someone like Baines but we all know that won't happen.
