Liverpool v Zenit (2005 GMT)

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is forced into two changes for the visit of Zenit as Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Countinho - both goalscorers in the 5-0 weekend win against Swansea - are cup tied. Joe Allen and Jordan Henderson replace the pair, with Luis Suarez set to revert to the lone striker role.

For Zenit, manager Luciano Spalletti opts to make just one change to the team that won the first leg 2-0. Veteran Sergei Semak is drafted in to stiffen the midfield as striker Aleksandr Kerzhakov drops to the substitutes' bench.

I was shocked that BR thought Shelvey should come on, he just doesn't have a track record of showing any composure. Fowler is just saying Shelvey should have scored.

Shelvey is most likely to end up in that position to score

He's also most likely to get booked

I still like him and thinks he's got a big future. He's got fire and talent.

Just needs a little more control

Good effort by the team.

I can see the reasoning for bringing Shelvey because in a siege he would be one player who knows how to score a goal.

The problem was we lost our midfield balance a little as a result, and also the substitution of Assaidi on meant that Enrique was no longer a threat.

FBK! Yeah great game and for once we showed some real guts and fight. Lets hope they can carry this on.

I thought Assaidi was excellent when he came on though.

Good to see there was a busy thread in my absence

He wasn't excellent.

he was surprisingly good though

He just showed the same quality he always does. Take players on, good feet, no delivery.
