1) Pep has moved on. Messi might not go to the same club, but he might now be looking for new hunting grounds.
2) Messi has a poor relationship with Villa and often openly demonstrates his disgustwith him.
3) Where else would he go. With FFP, only United and Arsenal can afford him (in England) and I doubt Wenger would go for Messi when he can sign Okbanna Bindi from French 3rd division side L'Onion for £100K. That leaves us and Bayern as the only realistic places in Europe for Ronaldo to go (forget PSG as he and Ibra aren't great buddies)
4) Neymar. Forget the Neymar vs Messi debate for a second. If Neymar leaves Barça are most likely his destination as they have a 'preagreement' with Santos and being that Messi is now 26, perhaps in this FFP climate Barça might want to cash in on Messi and buy a younger player at a cheaper price.
5) Qatar Fouindation. Recent newspaper reports suggest that the Arabs aren't happy with a self-confessed being the visible face of their 'brand'. Could just be newspaper tripe or could be based on truth.
6) The Rooney factor. As in another article today it was suggested Rooney might be sold. Surely to placate the fans a Messi signing might be used with the money we get from a Rooney sale? (In addition to a few more pounds)
Verdict:
There's an appromately 80% likelihood of Messi joining United.
