Help needed

Hey guys

Basically I've been going to the gym for 7 months now but I only go 2-3 times a week (play football once a week too) and I've been trying to build up my abs, but things have been progressing far too slowly. I was advised to do more cardio first and then focus more on weights etc.

This is my standard routine at the gym

25 mins Cycling [difficulty level: 14]
10 mins Rowing
10 mins treadmill [speed: 10.5/11]
5 mins overhead press [45 kg]
5 mins chest press [45 kg]

And then I occasionally do dumbbells.

I've noticed minor differences such as my obliques are slightly trimming down, my general fitness has improved, my legs are firmer and my arms have got a bit bigger, but there seems to be little to no difference on my abdomen.

I very rarely eat desserts, I don't drink juices from concentrate, I've recently stopped eating white pasta and bread and I can't even remember the last time I had a packet of crisps or a chocolate bar.

So should I just keep going or is there stuff I'm not doing right because I'm not seeing the results I want?

Completely agree with alv here.

Fitness is good if you have the muscle mass to define. Personally I would recommend incorporating a leg routine into your workout every week. Squats, lunges, deadlifts, box jumps, all great compound exercises that work out your abs a ridiculous amount. Plus exercises like squats help increase your testosterone which increases your ability to build.

For ab only exercise? From personal experience, rollouts, plank, decline core (preferably with weights) and V's work them out the best.

I would focus on getting a good V shape first though mate, a little on the shoulders, back and chest broadens you out which will compliment abs better.

^A lot of misinformation in that, I'm afraid.

Following the likes of Lyle McDonald and Alan Aragon would be more insightful than following Zyzz's guide, with all due respect to the man.
