The myth perpetuated by the media is that Mertesacker is clueless and Vermaelen is amazing, where in fact it can be argued it's the other way around.
Personally, I think Koscielny is our best CB, and the parternship of Kosc and Mert is 1000x better than anything else we have. Verm should stay on the bench for Swansea, IMO.

We actually lost the 1st leg because of some of his positional errors. A captain that can't motivate his team...that said it all!

Last time Vermaelen didn't play before tonight: Sunderland away, Stoke at home. Result: Consecutive clean sheets.
