That Time Of Season

First of all what a great result last night! Is that us safe? Surely!

I guess it's that time of year when you look at some of the poor performances, the late goals conceeded, (the lack of a Stuart Gray type of coach in our case) and wonder what could have been.

Absolutely delighted with our performance in the Championship since Mid December. Did you realise that in our last 20 games we've won 11 Drawn 5 and only lost 4! If our first 20 games had matched that we'd be sitting in 3rd looking at a very close promotion fight with Hull City and Watford! Incredible really.

So I think next season could be a really special one for Sheffield Wednesday. I'm hoping that DJ/MM have learned from last season and rather than swamping the team with 10 new players, instead we bring in 4 or 5 quality players and a couple of loanees as and when we need.

Who would you bring? Helan? (is that realistic?) Lita?

Can we realistically dream of play offs next season? (In the Championship that is as opposed to loosing our next 5 and going down)

Where are we going to finish this season now? I reckon we will be top 10!

Makes you wonder that if we had appointed S Gray at the start of the season then we would surely be up there.

I think Helan would be realistic but depends on how much City want for him.

Im in full agreement that we only need a few quality signings and not overloading the squad with freebies that are at best "ok".

For me the likes of Llera (who's out of contract anyway) will be off as he isnt defensivlely as capable at this level, not much of a footballer either if that makes sence as he lumps it up all the time.

M Taylor might go too as he has been very shakey.

Prutton too may make way and thats all I'd change to be fair and replace them with better players at this level, also he have performaed well fincancially so should we stay up MM may hand DJ with a little more money to play with this summer to ensure our progress!

Personally a top 10 finish is what I would be hoping for at most providing we stay up this season and I say that because our fall back down to the relegation places can happen every bit as quick as our rise out of it. I wont be celebrating survival until it is mathematically confirmed. This league is too mental.

I hope DJ has learnt from this season and like you say, brings in 4-5 quality signings. The problem is that alot of our current talent keeping us out of the drop are loans so major work will need to be done next season. Im just looking forward to having a season where DJ cant use the "we're adjusting to this level" excuse.

Milan - Llera not good enough for this level?? He makes mistakes here and there just like 90% of the rest of the team but surely you cant be serious. I think hes been outstanding for since the beginning of the year.

I think Helan is out of our reach unless MM decides to actually try and get this team challenging in this division. It all boils down to that for me.

I dont like Dave Jones but Id like to see him given a second season in this league and see what he can achieve next season.

Top 6 next season please.
Get big Olafinthingy in, replace Llera, Prutton, Lita and JJ with four quality signings and I recon we're there.
re Llera, I agree with Milan. While he's done ok defensively, he's a bloody liability with his hoofing. A youngish, quick CH to partner Gardner would be lovely.

Anyone enjoying a spot of blade goading today?

Ey up...a couple of spozzy wins and the wendies are marching on Europe...

I'd like to see us keep as much of the current first team as possible including Llera who with Gardener is better than any other CB we have.

I'd be doing everything posiible to have Helan here (even on a season loan) and also Lita is a great option up front. I'm not filled with confidence in our CM positions so would be looking to strengthen.

I really think there is something advantageous about having a settled squad of players and wouldn't do anything too drastic like last season I'd stick rigidly to a policy of only signing players that improve us even if it p@@@ed the supporters off all summer and we only ended up with 2 or 3 new players and a couple of season loans.

I agree with Briggowl we need to try keep with this team for next year for some stability.

MM isn't goin to spent them money it requires to get 4/5 quality players in the summer he may do it in January if we've been top 6 upto december like i've & others have said before MM is a business man he needs to see a return for his investment.

C'mon Poite, every time I see him play all he does is hoof it up, jeez he makes Peter Kay's passes look like one of Xavi's cute little passes to Messi Like Wit Tank says he's a liability, its like "BOOMPH, AV IT" only for teams to come at us again, next season Id like to us play a bit more on the floor but we'll never build from the back as long as Llera's here if im honest, ok some games he has been solid but we need consistancy at this level, and Llera isnt consistant at this level, I thank him for what he did at L1 level, but thats exactly what his level is if im honest!

No, Uncle Mort. Wrong again.

Everything I've read on here is tempered with a realism that seems to have escaped your reverie filled mind set.

I think DJ actually has it sussed at the moment. I'm not entirely sure I was correct in calling for his head vociferously a few months back. I'll give him his dues - he's stuck at it, ably supported by Gray (the real difference by all accounts going by opinions form fellow Owls). DJ is still on my watchlist thouhg ...

I agree entirely with Poite about DJ learning from this season - if anything I hope he has learnt about the mentality of us fans - he certainly has responded by giving us a bit of stability and weathering the storm of discontent.

Yes, I'm happy at the moment. I think another couple of points should be enough to stay up. Does anyone actually recall their own prediction form the start of the season as to where we and other teams would end up? Worth trawling the archives for surely?

On another note, when can we start ramping up the hyperbole about the filthy whites on Satdi?

On a other note i hope our travelling supporter can show them how to behave & not rip up seat & jump around making monkey noises like thay did at ours.( i think the monkey noise was some kind of chant but i couldn't make it out!!)
