West Ham - Wigan. Match report.

So the Hammers are over the line, maths tells you we can still go down, but let's be honest the job is done.

So the game, well as was to be expected Wigan buoyed up by getting into the F.A cup final started well but without any real cutting edge, a few half chances but Jussi only had to make saves you would expect him to make. The goal by Jarvis was fortunate for him but not for the goal itself, on another day his cross would have been tapped in by a West Ham player on even led to an own goal. As it was nobody got a touch and in found the far corner. For the rest of the first half it was pretty much all West Ham and we were unlucky not to go in with another goal.

Second half, well West Ham came out and played like a team who realised all they needed to do to ensure safety was not concede. We started to sit further and further back and you could feel the nerves from the stands. Still Wigan for all the ball they had never looked like scoring and it was almost inevitable West Ham would get a second, it just had that feeling. That said I think if Wigan had scored first in the second half they could have gone on to win.

So for West Ham a good day and we can relax now, for Wigan well if they can just start scoring when they are dominant in games they still have a chance, but time as they say is running out.

A remarkably fair report. I would add that both teams had played a Manchester team in midweek, so they were in the same situation.

Wigan displayed all the initiative in the second half, but found it difficult to beat a massed defence - as would any team. They did create chances, but on the day Jussi Jääskeläinen was inspired and proved to be Man of the Match.

West Ham's first goal came from a cross from Jarvis - cost £10 million - that evaded defenders and forwards alike.

Wigan lost centre half Alcaraz to injury in the first half. West Ham duly scored a second goal by Nolan - cost £4 million - from a knock down by Carroll - cost to Liverpool £35 million.

Wigan can only dream of buying players of this quality. But Martinez continues to make the most of his limited resources. We hope to see you next season.

We defended very well. Apart from few dribbles from Wigan strikers they didn't create any clear cut chances. As usual JJ's performance was 10/10.

Oh, no. When you beat us 3-2 at the DW stadium few years back, you had Moses - sold to Chelsea for £7mil, Tom "Iniesta" Cleverly - loaned from Man Utd, Rodallega - who was sought by Everton, Arsenal and PSG then joined Fulham, N'Zogbia - sold to Villa for £10mil and Diame - the best CM at current West Ham side..

Wish, we had players like you to hold 2-0 lead and possibly to avoid relegation.

Chicken Feed

It was a strange game, I really thought after going we went a goal up Wigan would collapse, fair play that they didn't. Not sure what happened to West Ham at half time, time to think seemed a bad thing for us.

As for the players you name, Carroll is a good player he has that ridiculous £35m price tag on his head and no way is he worth that, but he is still quality. Jarvis, well he blows hot and cold for me, but according to Saturdays Guardian West Ham have made the highest number (180) of accurate crosses in the league, so I guess he is one of those players that is more effective than you think. As for Nolan, well you know what you are getting with him, he may not be likeable and his style may not be attractive, but he gets the job done.

Mafiaboy - can you spot the difference between West Ham and Wigan? It isn't difficult.

West Ham
Nolan - bougt for £4 million
Jarvis - bought for £10 million
Carroll - bought by Liverpool for £35 million

Wigan
Moses - sold to Chelsea for £7 million
Rodallega - left for Fulham
N'Zogbia - sold to Villa for £10 million
