There's no feeling quite like stumbling on a bargain. It's the only upside to pi55ing away a Sunday rummaging through other peoples cr@p at carboot sales. Same goes for footballers. Signing a great player on the cheap is wonderful and there are no cheaper players than those on expiring contracts. With that in mind, here's a few players whose contracts are up this summer or not too long after:
Keisuke Honda - CSKA Moscow: United, Arsenal and PSG all said to be interested. Contract actually expires at the end of 2013 rather than the end of this current football season.
Bruno Zuculini - Racing Club: Young midfielder with the world at his feet. I can see him turning into a top class player in the not too distant future.
Tomas Hubocan - Zenit: Can play CB, RB or LB. I do love defenders who can play anywhere across the back line.
Hugo Viana - Braga: Midfielder with good passing range and set piece ability (according to Wikipedia). Premier League experience with Newcastle a few years back.
Douglas - Twente: Newcastle have had one eye on him for a while. Very capable CB.
Volkan Demirel - Fenerbahce: No experience outside of Turkey. #1 keeper for club and country.
Miralem Sulejmani - Ajax: A winger who can actually cross the ball? Oh my! Ajax paid big money for his services in 2008.
Tomas Necid - CSKA Moscow: He gets really good on Fifa 13.
Mickaël Landreau - Bastia: Not exactly the superstar he once was but plenty of experience and ability to spur on Sir Chesney.
Max Kruse - Freiburg: Having a very good season in Germany.
Claudio Pizarro - Bayern: Going through something of a renaissance and currently can't seem to stop scoring.
Andreas Ivanschitz - Mainz: Someone I've been aware of for a good few years. Not sure if he's top quality but I've enjoyed watching him play for Mainz this season.
Anthony Réveillère - Lyon: A wealth of experience but not so much outside of Ligue 1.
Paddy McCourt - Celtic: The "Derry Pele" once looked like he could turn into a great winger but now it seems he was another case of style over substance.
Marco Caligiuri - Mainz: A livewire in an overachieving Mainz side this year. I like him but seems a tad selfish on the ball.
Anatoliy Tymoshchuk - Bayern: Not much tread left on these tyres but an experienced, combative defensive midfielder if ever there was one.
Christian Abbiati - AC Milan: Probably wouldn't leave Milan but I said the same thing about Julio Cesar...
Daniel van Buyten - Bayern: Another one who can boast about experience. Haven't seen him play in a while so not sure what he's capable of these days.
David Wotherspoon - Hibs: As a Scot, I'm biased here but I really like this guy. One of a fair few Scottish wingers with a good future ahead.
Nigel Reo-Coker - Vancouver Whitecaps: No. Next.
Sylvan Ebanks-Blake - Wolves: Jesus, slim pickings now. Moving on...
Lukasz Fabianski - Arsenal: What the funk? What's he doing here?
Fran Mérida - Atlético Paranaense: Oh, funk this. I'm out.

Oh you're so right, Surreal. Clearly, I should have just copied and pasted yet another article about Giroud's ban not being overturned or the FA dishing out a 10 game ban for Suarez.
Or maybe I should have tried one of those oh so hilarious wind up articles you claim to specialise in.
God forbid anyone tries to change the funking record. No wonder this site is dying.

If Serial had said that, I'd say, "Quick! Get the gastric band!" Of course, Serial would probably just think that a gastric band was music to listen to while eating too much.

I'm just saying I'd be really worried if your sides were splitting, Serial. We all would. We'd be like, "I knew this would happen. His body just couldn't expand any more..."

Most of the players you've listed are midtable players at best, OP.
