No Alex no more tips

Alex may well be the greatest British manager in history but avoid him at all cost if you want a tip for the Grand National.

I would be very worried as a Man Utd fan he has recommended Moyes based on his past record.

His tip for Steve McClaren as England manager has not help his cause:

"Steve will do well," said Ferguson. "He has a fantastic group of players and he will get the best out of them.

Wrong Fergie!

Sir Alex Ferguson had previously said that he wanted Keane to succeed him as Manchester United coach when he retired.

The Manchester United captain has admitted he would like to move into management when he retires and his manager believes he has the makings of a top boss.
`Absolutely no doubt about that. If he wants to do it he'll be an absolutely brilliant manager

Wrong again Fergie.

Will it be 3rd time lucky?

Sir Alex's son is not making it either.

Moyes is far more proved than the earlier guys you mentioned tho. .Wouldn't think to much about it.

Someone claim even that Mourinho was Ferguson's first choice, the Portuguese newspaper Record claim that José Mourinho refused to Manchester United job for family reasons.

It's hard to warm to McClaren but he's had a fairly impressive career post-England, e.g. won the Dutch title with a club outside the big three. The England job has been a graveyard of a number of coaches who have excelled elsewhere. Surely we are more or less at the point now when we have to accept that England's shortcomings over the last 30 years have been more fundamental than having the wrong managers.

As for Keane, I guess Fergie was giving an opinion based on latent qualities rather than observing him in action. I don't suppose he had the same view of Keane once he'd actually been tested at Sunderland and Ipswich.

As you can see, I am going to some lengths to contradict your points, because what you say frightens me.

In truth I also thought that Keane was going to be a great manager as did many others.

With everything that Keane would have learned under Fergie I thought that Keane eventually taking over from Fergie at Utd was almost certain.

McClaren has hardly been a big failure as a manager. As for Keane he doesn't manage his players very well. If he'd have taken a better look at Fergie - treat each player differently, some you can give a right rollocking to, others need an arm round the shoulder - he might have fared better.

With Keane, he never grasped the carrot and stick method. You kind of get the feeling if you needed a rollocking you would get the stick, but if you needed an incentive, the carrot would probably taste of tree bark.

Come on, he was hardly going to turn around and say that Steve was going to be an awful England manager was he? They are friends and he was showing support. Wow. Same with Keane. What sort of manager would turn around and say, "Nah, I reckon he'll make a cr@p manager." He was giving friends a bit of support, not putting them in charge of Manchester United.

It's Alex Ferguson for God's sake, the guy will say what he feels needs to be said, whether it be the truth or not.

As for Moyes, this is his own personal opinion which will be strongly listened to about something which is ridiculously important to him. He's going to give as honest an answer as he possibly can. And I trust his judgement in this situation.

I wonder why Sir Alex did not lean towards McClaren because he seems the perfect candidate on paper compare to old Moyes.
Moyes looks to me like one of Alex gut feelings which is simple not good enough for a club like Manchester United.
Alex is looking for someone who reminds him of himself when he was younger.
Moyes may look like him, talk like him and maybe have the same waist size, but he will still only be an intimation of the great man himself.
