Good or Bad technique?

When going to the gym, this is just an example of a chest day:

I bench press and do as high a weight as possible and push myself as hard as I can.

Then inbetween I do a set of flys, for example, and do a relatively difficult weight but dont push myself too hard because I am about to do decline bench after which I want to bench heavy and exert more energy on this exercise.

Now would it be better practise to push yourself as hard as possible throughout the workout even if it means that you may not use decline bench as much as you normally do? Or is it OK to have less energy intensive exercises?

(apologies if this doesnt make sense)

Edin. You seemto be in the know about working out. Got one question if you dont mind.

When working out, how much focus / time do you give to your arms / triceps / biceps?

I mean, is the majority of the work done when you're working out your chest /shoulders and back and you just need to top up it up with a few bicep/tricep exercises?

Yeah seems you've got it spot on mate. Ultimately if Im doing chest exercises I may only add on two tri exercises at the end, or if Im doing back I will only add on one bicep exercise at the end.

I Dont think you even HAVE to do it tbh as you are working them hard enough as it is. I just like that post gym 'pump' feel. So tend to Tri Dips and Skulls at the end of a Chest/Shoulder session, and curls at the end of a back session

Ah ok. Cheers man. Makes sense.

Another question Edin

When you're doing dumbbell chest press or bench press, do you kind of clench your chest when you're pushing the weight back up so that all the pressure is on your chest. Dont know if that makes sense or not.

I normally am focusing too hard not to drop it

I try and squeeze at the top of my rep and lower the barbell/dumbell to my chest level to maximise motion of the exercise thats about it.

I know. So many things to consider man. Form is so important. Im focusing on fixing my form so much now. Been watching youtube videos. Picked up a little tip when doing dumbbell flys. Yeh thats what I meant though. Squeeze your chest when pushing up.

What about when your doing bench press. Do you have a wide grip as possible? I like to widen my grip a lot so it really stretches my chest but not sure if that's right or not.

It varies what muscle you want to work really, wide does work your chest and close grip works your try's.

You should buy this months issue of Mens Health (I know), there is a good guid in it to work out, and you get a range of different videos that you can watch which will show you how to do exercises with perfect form
