You'd be gutted being a Benfica fan. This time last week, only 4 games left to complete the season, top of the league while undefeated and two cup finals to look forward to. Then Kelvin scores in the 90th minute for Porto to beat them and go top of the league. Well at least you still have the Europa League Final. Nope, Ivanovic scores in the 93rd minute to beat them.
That was only their 5th defeat all season.

Lost away to Fenerbache in Europa Semi
Lost away to Porto in League
Lost to Chelsea in Europa Final
Sometimes footy is awesome, sometimes it makes you sick.

Arguably our finest season in recent years we won nothing either.

Yeah, we have all been there. Still gutting though. Football is also full of amazing moments too, Van Hesselink scoring in the 90+ minutes against Rangers and then we won the league. So many extreme emotions. THat's why I love it.

Ha, my first thought was "Rangers fan, 2 goals, Benfica beat us 2-1. Here we go." Then I saw the green and white hoops and it took a second to realize it was Sporting, lol.

Heard the story the other night about Benfica and how an ex manager whom after winning them the European Cup for a second time asked for a pay rise.
They wouldnt give him one and he walked but on his way cursed them that "in 100 years they would never win another european trophy"
Since then they have played in six finals and lost the lot.
The great Eusabio even said a prayer at the guys grave asking for the curse to be lifted before one of the finals.

We lost the UEFA cup final to Porto in extra time.
Lost the league on goal difference.
Lost the cup final to Rangers in extra time.

was at the cup final in 2003,we won comfortably in normal time,2-1 it was think larsson pulled one back near the end
i see your point though most enjoyable season recently was 2008 and we were pretty much same as benfica,lost the uefa cup final 2-0 but zenit didn't score until 70 odd minutes an then one at the very end,the league we were leading all season until last 3 games,we were still in it up to about 70 minutes of last game of the season when jvoh score at tannadice and that was that
winning the league the next season was fantastic but the season overall wasn't nearly as exciting

Polloks you are right in a way. Larsson pulled one back early second half and Hartson missed a penalty at the death
