Already upsetting, now making me angry. Your comments please...

The fact that Popper, Duckenfield and Bettison refused to be interviewed spoke volumes. These three plus Kelvin Mackenzie should be tried for perverting the cause of justice at the very least.

Well said.

I'd add that other blurt Bernard Ingham to the list , strange he didn't appear - he is normally quite vociferous - and Blair is even more of a twåt after watching that.

I don't blame motson for anything in that respect from what we saw in the documentary, it's not unusual for the BBC to report an incident and then revise the story correcting any mistakes, this tragedy unfolded quite quickly and at that point he could only go with the information he'd been given.

He didn't have access to the CCTV footage and no particular reason to believe that Duckenworth had lied, he also had no view of the outside of the ground or the area behind the pens.

I've had a look at motson's evidence at the 1991 inquest, you can download a pdf from here:
http://hillsborough.independent.gov.uk/repository/SYC000108870001.html

I should mention there is other eye witness evidence in that document that people might find distressing.

Just reading the whole of that pdf you could draw a few conclusions from the evidence given, which we all know with the hindsight of knowing a fair bit from subsequent inquiries.

There was a distinct lack of stewards and inadequate policing, no marshalling, there was no major surge from the back of the crowd, just a steady increasing of pressure as more people entered the pen.

There was no animosity in the crowd, no rowdiness, no drunken louts.

The police ignored peoples cries for help until it was far too late for many.

It's clear that Duckenworth was out of his depth, Bettison I really need to read more about his role on the day but we know he is culpable for conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. Popper is an absolute moron.

As for Blair, what's another 96 lives on top of the thousands of lives lost due to his phony war, that man couldn't ever sink lower in my estimation.

I think there are many phases to hillsborough that really need their own inquiries, there is the time leading up to and including the tragedy itself, the response to the tragedy and then the actions of the emergency services after the 2 previous events. There is also the question of the FA's role in choosing Hillsborough, sheffield wednesday's 10 year old safety certificate, the list goes on and on.

RAP- i was also only 9 at the time also but my dad and Grandad made it very clear that I was old enough to understand what was happening and we went to Anfield to pay our respects very soon after they opened it. That day will never leave me, so I can never imagine how the actual event will stay with the survivors. Im a teacher now and I make a point of talking to and educating all the students i teach regarding this issue... maybe because it is so close to me as a Liverpool fan but hopefully as its important that the lives of humans should not be treated like this ever again...

and the families should be held up as a testament to the dedication and love they have displayed to the 96.

Both me & the wife were in tears watching that last night.

As has been said, this merely scratched the surface of what went on that day, and in the subsequent weeks & months.

There must be a whole bunch of people who are really shítting themselves about the potential outcome of the new enquiry

Shameful!!! There are many people guilty of perverting the course of justice.

Total respect for the families who fought the fight for so long despite the fact that they were fighting against the establishment who clearly went to great lengths to ensure they wouldn't win.

Popper, Duckenfield and Bettison may have all retired so can't be sacked, but you know they are all on lovely fat pensions. These should be frozen now and if/when found guilty, any money paid in the last 20odd years paid back by either them or their families.

I cannot understand how Popper even came to the conclusion about the cut-off time, especially as he had unrestricted access to all of the video footage on that fateful day, it just beggars belief.

I'm not entirely sure what kind of good it would do but I feel like all of the video should be released, let people see what else Popper missed and the Police lied about.

I do wonder how long it will take for true justice to be delivered.

I thought the treatment of the Police Inspector who had raised concerns about the initial investigation and role of the South Yorkshire Police was telling.

There can be no doubt what caused it and who was to blame, that has now been made irrefutably clear.

Those individuals responsible for inaction, indecision and inept management across all services and organisations must now be held to account in the courts as soon as possible.

So many failings at almost every turn; the establishment has finally found out that, ultimately, you can never hide the truth.

I would dearly like to know what John Motson overheard between a Police officer and the Referee when he was confirming the team sheets. Popper conveniently ignored that aspect of Motson's testimony.
