Reading that on my journey into work and I nearly spat my wheatgrass smoothie all over the attractive Gucci clad young lady sitting opposite me as I travelled in my armoured carriage at speeds topping 100mph!
'Vermaelen Linked With Manchester United' - It is what it is... Can't see it baring fruit myself and whilst I wouldn't welcome it, IF it did happen I doubt I'd be covering household appliances in tin foil and rock myself to sleep in a foetal position in a hopeless display of grief.
Still got a suspicion Tommy V is off though, although unlikely to Manchester. Curse of the captain eh...?
Vermaelen to Utd?

Why would we sell Vermaelen? We need three top quality centre backs on our books. In fact you need
actually four if you factor in that at least one will be
injured and you need one sitting on the bench.
This season we were relatively lucky with injuries but
take a look at previous seasons and it has been very
different. I can recall a number of occasions when the
club's resources were stretched to limit.

The fact is, now Arsenal have Koscielny & Mertesacker as an established pairing, who have performed consistently for a while now.
If it ain't broke, don't try and fix it!
And I am fairly sure that is Wenger's thinking. Kos & Mert compliment each other, Kos & Verm hinder each other and Mert & Verm... Well, I dunno, they're not ideal bedfellows!
In short, injuries aside, Vermaelen is very much 3rd choice. And as someone said, him being captain (under these specific circumstances) is not ideal.
Vermaelen will want to be playing reguarly, obviously and his national coach (for Belgium) has echoed that sentiment.
Don't get me wrong, I don't subscribe to the idea that Vermaelen is a bad defender, he's obviously very talented. But he's had a poor season, at times in fact he's been diabolical by his previous high standards.
Like I say though, unless one of Kos or Mert get injured or either has a crisis in terms of form, Vermaelen will be 3rd choice. And I'm unsure that will set well with him.

Verm and Mert were really good at the beginning of the season when we conceded 2 goals in 5 games or something. Verm's loss of form also coicides with us defending badly as a team. Clearly he made some bad decisions as well, but this is hardly evidence for discarding him. If we defend as a team, Verm and Mert is a really good partnership. And if a player gets disgruntled at the fact that he will have to fight for his place after a run of bad form, he should leave.

We need Vermaelen to model out new puma kits.

Nive article Moist. Sadly it shows you read the Currant Bun and have a psychotic pre-disposition to wrap household appliances in tine foil.
Do you need help?
PS: We should hang onto Verm. On his day he is excellent.

Vermaelen's a good player. Cracks me up seeing the Mancs go "oh no!"
One thing's for certain, Vermaelen would suddenly become one of the players in his position if he did join them.

we complain that we have a pony squad, then we have a decent player out of form and some want him sold...
we need quality back up for when the inevitable happens and Kos and/or Mert are suspended / Injured / drunk
Keep TV, get another CB in and have 2 pairs
give the armband to Arteta or wilshere or Jovetic

When I read that it is being suggested that Vermaelen
will be offloaded at a discount price of £5 Million I know that this story is either garbage or mischief making.
Vermaelen has still got a number of years on his contract and one indifferent season is unlikely to force
him out of club. We NEED at least 3 top level centre
backs to interchange and provide cover for injuries and rest.
Wenger would only sell him if we received an offer we
could not refuse and we have an adequate replacement.
I am sure that Wenger is not going to sell him when there are at least a dozen other players in the squad
whom we would like to offload including at least two
centre backs [Squillaci and Djourou].

He has never been our best defender. Ever.
