People forget Sir Alex's record at Aberdeen. Paisley achieved massive success for nines years at liverpool, following on from shankleys impressive foundation. Paisley inherited a top team and maintained that. He managed that for nine years. Fergie, after taking a relatively small club on to dominate the Scottish top flight for half a decade, beating Bayern Munich and Real Madrid to win the cup winners cup. He then went on to turn a dysfunctional expectation weighted Manchester united team on to dominate English football for twenty years, winning three European trophies along the way. For more than thirty (30!) years Fergie has made a massive impact on domestic and European football. 30 years gives plenty of time to find faults. Paisley achieved so much in 9 years, but people assume he could have carried that success on for a further two decades. That is a big assumption. With Fergie, the assumption is redundant. He's did it. Sir Alex, god bless x the greatest ever british manager! I post this here for genuine debate. Not interesting in partisan crap. Sincerly looking forward to reasoned discussion.

These articles are getting as boring as the 'Gerard v Lampard' ones.
Why can't you United lot just be content with what SAF has achieved for you? This inferiority complex you're developing isn't healthy....

I think you will find the inferiority complex has to do with people like you and the OP who are interested in wumming each other.
The majority of United and Liverpool fans do not care. Both men's achievement are in the annals of history. It has nothing with either of us.
Why don't people strive and achieve their own personal success rather than ride on the coattails of great men?

The old european cup was harder to win btw. There wss only 1place up for grabs.....that was 1st. nothing for 2,3 or 4th. If you lost 1 game you were nearly out, none of this league format crap.

Red Cog. There you go again. Using your 'fancy' words to try and disguise the fact that you talk out of your rear entrance every time you post.
Explain how I have an inferiority complex when I'm pointing out United fans should be happy with what their manager has achieved?

These mancs are worse than John Terry, gegging in on Aberdeen's success in the 80's
Next they will be adding Gollum's achievements at Everton into their history books...oh wait

More people than you think realise Fergies Scottish record, but I wonder how many people realise the massive contribution mae by Bob in the Shankly era.
Uncle Bob every day of the week!!!!

Neither Paisley nor Ferguson could have broken the Real Madrid / Barca stranglehold on the title in La Liga twice and won the CL with a very dysfunctional Liverpool who were plummeting down the table. Ever.
FACT!

I'm just gonna come right out and say it - Paisley is better
The man dominated on all fronts - something i think Ferguson never achieved.
Its also a lot easier for big clubs to remain competitive in the sky era because the financial gulf has basically ruled out 17-18 clubs for the title before a ball is kicked.
Also, the current model of the champions league is designed to ensure that bigger clubs have a relatively easy route to the quarter finals... Sometimes even as late as the semi.
The group phase is almost as good as a buy. Look at the reaction of the press when an english club fails to get through the group - its usually labelled an embarrassment.
30 years ago, you could effectively be drawn against the best in the early ties. Liverpool went out the Champions league to Forest in the very opening round.
I wonder if Ferguson would have rather faced Barcelona or Byern in match one or a group match against FC Cluj ?
Seeding means that the champions league is really only competitive for the final 4 ties and that makes Fergusons European record even more disappointing.
Could you imagine if Mourinho only won 2 european cups in 20 odd years at one club.
Paisley dominated domestically and in Europe. He managed for a decade and contrary to popular belief, had to make new signings to keep that going. He couldn't rely on wealth to keep Liverpool at the top. He did it with lads from the British Isles and his record remains unmatched.
Winner = Paisley

Imagine a CL this year where you didn't have Barcelona, Bayern Munich or Man United and instead replaced them with the champions of Wales, Ireland and Poland...
That is right, you have a much easier competition to win.

In '99 when we won the CL we had both Bayern and Barcelona in our group.
Paisley dominated Europe back when sides could have little periods of dominance rather than the modern day when there sides have found it too difficult to dominate.
