Webger reverts back to type

Once again we appear to be looking at 'potentials' in transfer market.

Wenger and Arsenal seem incapable of pursuing and completing a signing
of a genuine world class player.

Whenever we get close the club appear to get cold feet over transfer fee or
wages or we are outbid by a more aggressive or ambitious club.

This is sadly becoming the reality of a club under current management and Board.

Yes for us!

Usually you need the big moves to ignite the transfer window.
You have to also bear in mind that other leagues finish after the PL, La Liga still is in progress.

Has any English team made a top signing yet? City, Chelsea, Utd?

Yeah, as DJ is implying this will very likely be a knock on process this summer in the market, especially given the financial restrictions of many of the clubs on the continent. Players will need to be sold, in order to buy.

It's not Wenger's fault.

How often do premier league teams to out and sign the established stars?

Even many if the big money signings have been based on their potential, such as Aguero, Silva and Mata.

Toure, Veron, Shevchenko, Crespo and Ballack are probably the only big big names that were brought to the prem. And only the former 2 were probably at their peak.

This is a PL thing, not a Wenger thing.

i think the op has a point about how fragile arsenal's confidence is when trying to sign a player.

it mostly seems that we only follow through with a player when we're the only club making an offer.

even last year, i couldn't help but wonder about the signings we'd made. namely:

would we have signed podolski had koln not been relegated?
would we have signed giroud were it not for his release clause?
would we have signed monreal and cazorla were it not for malaga's financial woes?

but beyond that, there also seems to be this recurring issue with how we approach rejection by players. it seems wenger has a set list of players that fit the profiles of what he is looking for - if, for example, he has an eye on isco as a playmaker but fails to sign him, there's nobody else he'd consider buying as an alternative.

I very much doubt we'll get any class players

There may be three or four players needed to strengthen our squad, but the two positions in starting eleven, which are required at moment to make us competitive with the top clubs in League are defensive midfield and striker.

With the budget which is being suggested is being available for transfers we should be able to buy a
striker of calibre of Jovetic and Higuain without too much difficulty.

To be fair to the Club here, the Podolski deal was done before Koln were relegated and we had been in for Cazorla ( and rejected ) once already.
