Brewers Match Predictor (6): Oxford

Damn ! I might have to go away on business for a few days. It's touch and go but just in case I am away, I had better load this up. All predictor league tables (league and cup) will return shortly should I temporarily disappear.

I still can't forgive Oxford for having the audacity to win 1-0 in that game when we were chasing conference promotion. I also look out for the Cambridge Utd games hoping that they lost. I think it is probably time that I laid to rest this conference rivalry.

The brewers made a good account of them selfs midweek and I have no doubt if we had of put a full strength team out, we would have hammered Notts County. But it was the correct tactic by GR & KS.
The focus has to be top 6 this season and we don't need extra games holding us back.

Biggest game in League 2 and both teams want the points. Both teams would take a point today.

Brewers 2 - 2 Oxford

Come on Brewers, take all 3 points and make me eat my hat.

I remember John Charles playing too and I think it was Hereford he played for that day but can't be sure. It must have been in the late 1960's.

This will be our hardest match so far and the signs are that we are neither tight enough at the back or clinical enough up front to get anything from this one.

I'm going for a 3-2 win to the Albion with goals from Howe,McGurk and Hussey.
I definately remember John Charles playing for Mertyr Tydfil at the old Eton Park(i think he was player manager at the time) it could have been 72/3 season when we had the 3 day week and had to kick off earlier to avoid using the floodlights ! We played at Bromsgrove Rovers i think on the Saturday and won 7-1 and then entertained Mertyr on the Sunday and won 4-0 ! Not a bad weekend !

Hard match to predict this one. They have a very good forward line, they will bring a fair few fans (although their turnout last year was very poor for them), so hopefully good atmosphere.
I'm going to say 2-1 to the Brewers.

Very tight game this one.
Seen enough this season to know we are ok at the back.
Scoring seems a problem but having said that other than score our play Tuesday was ok.

Match week 6 has been good for us so far. As has been reported elsewhere, last year it was home to Oxford and we won 4-0. Two years ago it was recently relegated Plymouth that we beat 2-1. Three years ago it was one of my rare away days with a shopping trip to Meadowhall for my girls whilst I crept off to the Don Valley, temporary home of Rotherham. Disastrous first half but a Shaun Harrad hat trick got us a point.

And another jolly along to Meadow Lane four years ago where a bemused stadium announcer introduced Sol Campbell as their new signing before an even rarer sighting - a Richard Walker goal.

Looking forward to today. They always bring a good following and 3rd vs 2nd adds spice.

I think we can win, but a draw just feels more likely.

1-1
