Some very good performances last night from the likes of Willian and Bertrand to name a few. But what impressed me the most was Mikel. He really bossed central midfield and I don't remember ever seeing him so involved.
I've been saying for a while that Mikel is not a holding/defensive midfielder and last night showed that.
With Essien being the more defensive midfielder it allowed Mikel licence to express and really impose himself in central midfield which is something we so rarely see him do at Chelsea.
I'm not sure if Mikel's performance last night was a false dawn but if he can consistenly replicate that then we already have the midfield General that we've been searching for.
Mikel the Midfield General ?

Any one that sees his performance against Spain at the confed's cup will know he can really boss the midfield if given the freedom

Yes I did and I thought he was equally good in that game, especially as he was up against some of the best midfielders in world football.
The boy can play no doubt about it but if we play him in as a DM then we only have ourselves to blame if he plays sh'it.

His performance against Spain is one of the best I can remember from anyone against the Spanish, he was very good, I always think he is for Nigeria though, the added freedom/responsibility definitely helps him

He surprised me last night by how good he played.

Don't tell Ronny about this article

I have to be honest.... Mikel hasn't actually put a foot wrong this season!
I'd have to say I've been happy with everyone this season, even Torres, especially after the last 3 games!
Let's hope he can keep it up!!

Ronny I´ll be honest and say that I wanted Mikel to be sold over the summer and was a bit gutted when his proposed move to Galatasaray fell through.
However watching him last night was a real eye opener. I´ve seen him play like that for Nigeria but never for Chelsea and something very significant happened last night in Mikel´s Chelsea career:
He showed us all just how well he can play in a blue shirt when he is unshackled from the DM role and how he is capable of imposing himself and bossing a midfield in the more attacking CM role.
Personally I want to see more of Mikel in this new role, especially as we can´t count on a 35 year old Lampard to play every game this season.

Its one game TBK, although his last two sub apperances have been good too, but earlier this season he was pants, maintain perspective, he still has a lot to prove to win me over

Superb
I'm willing to give him more of a chance, I have to say that when we bring him on when we're 1 -0 up I feel pretty safe whereas in the past I would have worried.
I think Lampards experience will help us win the title this year, as I do agree with both sides of the argument when it comes to him.
If we have a good run now in the league I'll feel very positive in January of our title chances.
Especially as Cite.h seem to be the same average side with an average Manager
(on a seperate note, Cite.h is a banned word? really???)

Ronny I just realised that you can't say Man'ure but you can say crap here
Getting back to Mikel I'm also willing to give him another chance, especially if he's played in the more attacking central midfield position.
I don't want to see Mikel played as a DM anymore. I think that after about six or seven years it's become clear that he is not suited to that position. We might as well play Mata there
