I think all the stick Boruc is getting is a bit crazy. Howler? Aye, big time. No love for keepers. After yesterday he has conceded 7 goals this season including the freak wind assisted Bergovic goal. Now consider Southampton have only scored 15 goals and are still in the top 4 suggests he has earned them more points than cost them.
It's clear we should never have let Hooper go. A guaranteed 20 goals for us, I think Stokes, Balde and Pukki will struggle to hit that between them. It was a bad choice of team for him to go to, strikers can't score goals if the team does not create any chances. It was a bad choice for us to let him go, even if he wanted to, because 20+ a season strikers are hard to find. We should have let him see out his contract and then let him choose whatever club he wanted to go to.

The board will disagree.
Champs League group stages reached and league probably won all without overspending.
Mistakes made? Yes
Targets made? Yes
However a good partner for Stokes would have us scoring much more. Say what you want about Stokes but he is the only player that tries to make things happen. He isn't the poacher 20+ a season people think he should be.

Yeah, but they reinvested Hoopers 5 million in Balde and Pukki. So we now have 2 players that are not producing what Hooper would have been. We hit our targets, that's a given, but if the board were just looking to pocket money we would not have signed 2 more players.
Pukki would be more a replacement for Stokes. Balde must not be cutting it on the training ground, but he would have been the in the box replacement for Hooper.
Agree we need a bit of spark in mid. We have a lot of grafters, not much flash. Ki would look for a killer pass, McCourt would attempt to take on a player or two. We don't have that now. Commons does it occasionally, but not consistent enough. We rely on speed of Sammy and Forrest to beat the full back and cross. This is an issue against teams that have their LM and RM usually playing deep, sitting on top of their own full backs. So we need to be able to go through the middle, but we can't. So a decent team should easily keep us out. Plus, even if we do get to the byline, we have no one in the box waiting for the ball.
Bif Efe is the only player we have that looks comfortable taking a player on, though he only does it in defence when it's heart in mouth time.

He wants us to pass it instead of hoofing it. He has cut out the daft stuff and beside VVD looks great. I'd like to see us switch him and Mulgrew and let him roam the midfield.
