Midfield Statistics

Seeing as the midfield appears to be turning into quite a conundrum i thought i would dig a little deeper to see if the stats point us toward any conclusions.
As we know, stats do not tell the whole story, or sometimes simply none of the story, but if like me you are a bit of a nerd at heart, you may find these interesting.

These numbers are simply the win percentage for each player if he starts a game, most are obviously as a central midfield pair, a few are as a wide man, some as a midfield trio.........

Price:..................4 starts............10pts.........2.50pts a game
Davis:.................12 starts..........29pts..........2.41pts a game
Evans:.................10 starts.........23pts..........2.30pts a game
McDonald............14 starts.........29pts..........2.07pts a game
Edwards................7 starts.........11pts..........1.57pts a game

These are the numbers as a midfield pair or trio

Davis+McDonald......5 starts.......12pts.........2.40pts a game
Davis+Evans............6 starts.......14pts..........2.33pts a game
Price+McDonald.......3 starts.........7pts..........2.33pts a game
Edwards+McDonald..4 starts.........4pts.........1.00pts a game

Twice we fielded a 3 man midfield, winning both with Price/McDonald/Evans and Edwards/Mcdonald/Davis

Hence I seperated the two into just plain appearances and as a pair

It was as i said, the total starts is seperate to the midfield combo numbers.
Twice we fielded an obvious midfield 3, the others were when someone was a 'wide' player on the right.

Well Cinci looks like we have no choice but to play Davis as he is a part of both of our most successful pairings.

Shame he’s rubbish, but hey stats don’t lie so they.

As i said at the very begining, stats don't neccesarily tell us anything and the only glaring difference in any of these numbers is Edwards inclusion, the rest are all pretty close statistically.

Maybe it is a coincidence, maybe not, but most Wolves fans consider Edwards to be a liability, and the statistics point the same way.

Either way, these are the numbers and can be interpreted however people see fit.

So the numbers mean nothing unless the numbers support what you already think?

“Hey guys here are some numbers. Ignore all the ones that don’t say that Edwards is useless they’re meaningless but look at the ones that do show Edwards is useless they’re 100% relevant”

Nice try

Never said that at all Tats, but you clearly want to argue over it.

As i said in the title, statistics can mean nothing.

These are the numbers, take them how you want.

Without these statistics most would agree that Edwards is not good enough, all these numbers show is who has been on the pitch and what points have been picked up.
Nothing manipulated, just numbers.

Not trying to argue Cinci but if you think the numbers above show anything then they show that Davis MUST be in our first XI, if you believe they show nothing then they show nothing about Edwards and they weren’t worth posting.

Which is it? Are they enlightening or pointless?

Quite pointless i would say, but the intention was to create a talking point

I don't think anyone needs numbers to enhance an opinion that Edwards shouldn't be anywhere near the first 11 and that we should be using any one of the other 3 alongside McDonald as we try and build a team for the next few years.

As McDonald has been in the team for virtually all the games then inevitably his record reflects Wolves record so his stats don't tell us anything really, And Price is to me the best player but inexperienced and if he had been retained for more games his stats wouldn't look as good. I don't rate Edwards but whether the poor stats prove anything I don't know. I wouldn't pick him anyway.

With 5 games in less than a fortnight coming up then I am sure we will see all of these players at some stage.
