Happy Christmas Nigel.
We know what you did for the Rams.

Think about it though 666, if you are capable. If your chances of further relegation are 6/4 if you made several bets on horses at 6/4 you would expect to win one. In the same way Derby have had several seasons in the second tier so with odds of 6/4 they could expect at least one relegation. They have therefore bucked the trend. Sorry to argue logically with you as logic is not your strong point.

No, not contradictory. Sometimes a "better coach" needs better players to work with, and sometimes they aren't all that patient. McClaren showed no patience at Forest and hasn't done well everywhere he has been by any measure. Derby looks a perfect fit for him at the moment and that is in no small degree to do with the state that Clough left the club in.

When we were relegated last time we were stoney broke with a load of useless overpaid players. We needed a low risk manager who could wheeler deal at the bottom end of the market. It is all conjecture but I don't think McClaren could have worked under the financial restrictions. Clough was the right type of manager at the time.
Clough's idea of gradual year on year improvement I don't think would ever have worked as the better more ambitious players would keep leaving. We therefore needed a higher risk manager to take us to the next level. I suspect we are paying far more the loan signings of Wisdom and Dawkins than Clough would ever consider. Again this is speculation but just extrapolating from his previous signings.

...plus Clough proved time and again he hadn't the temperament to 'manage' players used to the top flight.
He'd have led to fewer than 11 points if he'd fluked a promotion despite his negative tactics, so good riddance

Harper,
I hope you are enjoying the warmth?
But I don't agree with your that we have just trod water for two years. For those two years Derby have played better and better and more attractive football.
Just the foundation for McL to capitalize. Pity we dropped two points today.

Thank you Nigel for giving our boys the resilience to grind out another away result.
Shame the boys couldn't bring on Bucko with 15 to go to secure 3 pts.

Chuck away a lead? Miss penalty after penalty? Only score one?

I certainly am ramdini, can't beat a nice leisurely cycle to work at 7.30am when it's already sunny and 18 degrees.
