I don't think Rio was annoyed. Just knew that the ref wanted him off the pitch, so didn't walk all the way back to Rooney. Didn't he throw it to the ref to give to Rooney?

As he was limping, he needed to throw it to someone, and nobody seemed to be taking it, so I would think rather than carry on limping, he threw it.
