Gerrard saying he's going to play the holding role a lot more ....
is this to make room for Allen and Henderson together further forward as they have done so well with Gerrard out?
Is this because we've got our eye on another attacking midfielder?
Or is it just us trying to make sure Stevie, Coutinho, Suarez and Sturridge can all be shoehorned into the same XI...
Either way, Rodgers seems to have realised we'll be more solid like this than Allen being played as a holding midfielder.
Reading between the lines...

Coutinho looked distinctly unhappy at being subbed. Not surprising really, but he has yet to demonstrate that his shooting boots are actually on. He has far too many punts outside the penalty box, with little power to get there from those distances. Still a fantastic player though.
My MOTM still remains Raheem though, he ran his legs off.

gerrard gave the ball away numerous times today and mostly in dangerous positions, one caused the attack for the 3rd goal.
we shouldn't be building the midfield around him at this point in his career

I saw that too prankster, his passing wasn't of the quality expected. That third goal occurred, where I've said elsewhere, when StevieG and Lucas each decided to switch off. It was a case of "after you Humphry. No no Claude, after you" Bang! And Stoke were back in the game.

Agree with prankster - why are we building a team around a player on his way out?

Because, at this juncture, Fred, there isn't anyone with the leadership qualities that StevieG possesses. We are still very temperamental, and we still need a leader on the field.

You are an idiot if you think Gerrard has no more to offer Liverpool, he's class and was an improvement on Lucas in the same position.

not sure about that Jimmy, we have played some of the best football i have seen LFC play in years while gerrard has been out
we no gerrard we press better and have a more mobile midfield

no ones saying he shouldn't play, but he gave the ball away some many times today in dangerous positions, holding midfield is not the position for him from what i've seen.

Not on the wum here, but what's the deal with coutinho? Thought he'd be a massive player for you this season and be one of the key players for you this season, yet in many of the games I've watched he's tended to drift in and out of games or be on the fringes. I know he had the injury but was still expecting more.
