Prior to signing Matic we only had Mikel as a recognised DM in the squad, they won’t play in the same side so Matic is purely an upgrade who also offers better forward passing and attacking instinct from deep.

I don’t think you can accuse this current Chelsea team of being defensive or boring and with a team still finding its feet I think there is a lot more to come.

He’ll hopefully be our Yaya but operating more as he did at Barca, obviously not quite on the same level but he’s very good. Tall, powerful but good technique and able to drive the team forward. While he has been signed primarily as a defensive player I think he’ll actually provide that base and quick release of the ball forward effectively that will help us offensively. Maybe not the most exciting player in the world but actually one that will improve us all over, essentially a far better link allowing us the play with fluidity.

Get in line, that one is Liverpool's year.
