At the start of the university year I was talking to the head of the Stats department who advised me to stay on and complete a Masters degree. My marks were high and everyone who completed a Masters in previous years had jobs lined up before they even finished.
Today I was meeting with my advisor of studies who has been at the university many years and has a lot of contacts in business (he takes me for my current Financial Mathematics module).
He advised me to cut out the Masters and just complete my degree as it was more than enough to get me a job and that another year would not be to my advantage. He said it would be a waste of a year that would be better spent gaining experience and that most of the modules I would be doing next year I would never use again.
I was settled in the idea of doing another year but now I'm contemplating finishing in 4 months and going out to work. Does anyone have experience of applying for jobs with degrees/Masters? Is there any real advantage?
Thanks in advance

@Merry,
You are based in Belfast? I nearly applied to join the Civil Service summer internship this year. They were only looking a 2:2.
Anyway, I'm on for a 1st

Yes I am in Belfast. I think when I applied for my post, they accepted a 2.2 but it went up to a 2.1 shortly after. With your marks, you would be grand though.

That's the Civil Service ruled out then. I couldn't work in a place knowing somebody from my secret double life was there

Also, how much is "pretty good money"?

There are lots of different branches and locations in Belfast so you would be grand. There only are 4 statisticians in my dept so there would be no chance of being placed there.
