On sky this morning?
Since RVP came to United the goals scored by our strikers are...
RVP 44
Rooney 29
Hernandez 25
Welbeck 12
I was amazed when I saw this. If Rooney is fit he plays, whereas Hernandez doesn't seem to be able to buy a game. Yet only 4 goals between them! And this isn't a dig at Rooney article before anyone has a rant.
Anyone see the goals stats.......

my point is just that I feel RVP is more specialised in the #9 role while Rooney is more versatile in that he can also operate in the #10 role however for me he is neither specialised in either role.
...........................
Let us be fair to Wazza here 1982. He has only had two seasons where he was the # 9 and in those he scored 26 and 27 League goals.
RVP who has been the # 9 for god knows how long at Arsenal and now at Utd got 26 last year and 30 in his last year at Arsenal. 18 is his next best followed by a couple of 11's.

RVP spent a lot of his early appearances out wide or as a sub I would imagine?
.............
Bit odf an utterly pointless comment if you have only imagined it.

VC, didn't read your comment right, thought the 2.1/2.2 stats were for ONLY international apps.

No I appreciate that, we all know Rooney loves to get 'stuck in' which is why I feel RVP is more natural in leading the line and operating the #9 role.
I was never convinced Rooney and RVP could work together and am still not convinced. I would like us to at least try dropping g one of them with Mata behind. Personally I would prefer to see RVP up top but I would also be interested to see Rooney there, I think they would both do well but like I said I think RVP is a better #9.

And if he is being seen too late why the feck hasn't he realised this spoke to the team and adapted. Definitely his fault more times than not. And his link up play isn't that good. Apart from that
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why the hell should he adapt if he is making the correct runs but isn't being spotted in time? If he waits for the midfield to catch up then the opportunity will have been lost as the CB's will have also clocked both the possible pass and run.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why should he adapt?
Because it isn't working

There really isn't very much beetween them throughout their careers. RVP is better at some things, Rooney is better at others.
What I will say, and this is only my opinion, and can't be backed up with stats, just observation of the game, is that United tend to play better when Rooney is playing, than when he isn't.
Yes, I am sure we can all pick the odd game where that isn't the case, but certainly not overall.

VC,
This is worth a look regarding your observation. Win % with/without WR

Largely true however the stats don't identify which games Wayne didn't play in because they were Carling Cup or dead rubbers where the whole team would have been weakened for the match. Not a whole lot in it otherwise.

Read what I wrote again.
'What I will say, and this is only my opinion, and can't be backed up with stats, just observation of the game'
And I wouldn't even wipe my ar se with the Daily Mail let alone read it.

Whether either Rooney or RVP have or haven't played the past 2 seasons we've played pretty unattractive football.

Neither would I but they didn't fabricate the results of games across his Man Utd career.
As a general rule if a player is playing well it increases the chances of his team playing well and if the team are playing well it increases the chances of winning. Very logical.
