Suarez vs. Torres

For some reason I remembered this article from last year regarding whether we Liverpool fans thought Suarez was now better than Nando:

http://www.ja606.co.uk/articles/viewArticle/178816

Very interesting to look back on it just over 12 months later.

If you'd have asked me at the end of last season after his Ivanovic snack-pack I would have been adamant that Suarez was more trouble than he was worth and should be shown the door if someone were to make a non-ridiculous bid for him.

Football's a funny old game though and after deciding to keep him he's (touch wood) stayed controversy free and is breaking goalscoring records all over the place. I have to admit I'm starting to think that keeping this Suarez fella might be a good idea after all.

At the time of the original article I said it was close, but due to a few factors I still thought Suarez had a bit to go before he could be classed as better than Nando. I think we can safely say that those doubts have been put to bed.

Suarez isn't just better than Torres, he's the most talented player I've ever seen in a Liverpool shirt, and I am completely in love with Steven Gerrard. Stevie is still the most complete player I've ever seen but Suarez is a genius. A top, top, top player.

You're all still in denial. Your Torres>Suarez calamity isn't the worst of it. I even saw one of your lot say Rooney was better than Suarez a few weeks back

No, I'm just waiting for the answer to why (at the same time highlighting I'm a manc) my opinions on footballing matters have no respect 'anymore'?

z is a freak. He's the footballing equivalent of Roberto Duran a sublimely talented brute who never gives in.

ARE,

Sorry for the pedantry, but as much as I admire Duran, this is poor example because Duran famously did give in against SRL in their second fight - "No Más"

Do you know what? I had a feeling one of our more learned posters would refer to that famous moment. But I think Suarez had a similar one with Ivanovic last season, it's was his way of saying no mas because he knew he was going to get banned.

How we got him back on side in the summer I will never know.

The vast majority of football fans don't know $ hit about football and are notoriously fickle.

Suarez is much more intelligent, mentally stronger, works harder, better team player and a player for the big occasion.

Luis Suarez is having the best season of any premiership striker in history, and that is despite missing the first 5 games of the season and not taking penalties.

Suarez and Torres are two very different kind of strikers with one being an out and out "9" as they say and Suarez a kind of mix between a "9" and the "10" that Coutinho is. I find comparisons between players to be quite tedious to be honest but Suarez for me is the more gifted footballer and greater to watch. He relies a lot more on cunning technique and a quick instinct rather than the quick burst of pace that Torres relied on. At their peak I feel both would make a commendable partnership perhaps even better than the SAS we currently get so many goals from.

It's a shame that a combination of injuries and a clear wrong career move ruined Torres' career despite his trophy success on a collective level as on an individual level he has failed quite badly. But the general feeling even for us is that once that hamstring and groin was torn Torres was never going to be as prolific. Suarez's goal scoring record is also far superior and you see him score all types of goals that make you say wow - Norwich City probably have a DVD of most of them. If he can deliver this league title Suarez will go down as the greatest forward we've had above even the likes of Dalglish and Rush simply because of how he has performed in a far inferior Liverpool side. Coupled with two and a half decades of league hurt and if Suarez delivers it Torres' mere existence will even be forgotten at the club.

One things for sure a Torres is his prime would have been some player in this team. They way we break so quickly with his old burst of pace and finishing would be a sight to behold.

Probably because this is a big boys discussion about players at top clubs, doesn't include mid-table dross.
